My friend recently told me that she has been talking to this guy online for months now and they really like each other. However, she lied about her age and also sent pics of another girl. Now she wants to tell him the truth but doesn't know how. Btw....she's 18 and he's 17. She is hoping he forgives her and that they can still be together.....

She should tell him as soon as possible but say it in a way that cushions the fact that she lied such as "I have a confession to make. I didn't give you my real age. This is what it really is..." Also, she definitely has to send a photo of herself and hope he isn't angry that she used someone elses photo. She should ask for forgiveness and hope for the best. If he really cares for her, he will understand that she may have had insecurities about herself that made her lie in the first place. If he can't forgive, then maybe it wasn't meant to be in the first place. Next time, she would be more truthful about herself. Lying is never a good way to start a relationship and could ruin what could be something good.

I think she could just say the age was to make the photo's more realistic, and she was just being Internet cautious by sending him photos of someone else, after all she didn't know how far it would go!

if he likes her, and her sense of humour, and everything else, (apart from the photos!!) then that won't get in the way. he might be a little disappointed, but he should understand Internet security.

it isn't like she is 60, and he is 17, so age, and looks are not really relevant, between new friends, or shouldn't anyway

just get her to have a friend or someone close by when they do meet up though, as you never can tell when meeting someone you met on line, unless you do phone calls as well, and ask out of the blue questions.

it is better to be safe than sorry.

I recently found out that the guy i've been dating lied about his age....he's younger. He said that he didn't tell me because he knew i wouldn't give him a chance, which is true. But we really do care about each other and have a great time together. Should I just forgive him?

Can she tell him that she told him the fibs before she knew him really well? I think that if she is very truthful now and simply explains that she has been afraid to tell him because she really likes him, maybe he will understand.

There is always the possibility that he lied about something as well.

Poor kid. These things are common online though; anyone can lie. The kid is going to learn about the unfortunate world of online dating so it is best he knows now. Confess the truth.

thats the problem with internet dating. ive yet to talk to one who has told the truth. an about average body type means its about average for a fat person. smokes occasionally means they smoke dope. the only way out is to flat out tell the truth. how stupid is it to lie anyway when sooner or later the truth has to come out. why did she send pictures of someone else anyway. she must have an about average body type.

if he does he does. If he doesn't he doesn't. Its hard, but hey, as far as she knows he could have lied too. She should just tell him. He might be hurt, but the sooner the better.
