I am a male high school senior and I have a lot of girl friends but no girlfriend. I have no problems with flirting but somehow I can't get past flirting into a relationship. There is this one girl I want to be with and I asked her to our semiformal dance, she said yes, so I think something is there, but I can't tell whether she just likes me as a best friend or as a boyfriend (she bought me a boutonierre which was really nice but she doesn't start conversations with me.) How do I find out and how do I make it progress further? It is really bugging me because I like her a lot but I don't know if she likes me back. I have given her lots of signs that I like her, i.e., flowers, notes, etc. and she doesn't do anything to say yes or no.

it sounds like she just thinks of you as a friend or is super shy. i would suggest that you either start swinging the friendship towards physical... like... start hugging her... then give her a kiss on the cheek when you hug... then try for the peck on the lips when you hug... if you get that far... then she likes you....
a great boyfriend is that good guy friend... with some physical action... and commitment!

The answer to your question is one you should take with you especially when it comes to girls and women..
Honest... Ask her if she would like to be your girlfriend... Be prepared for the NO answer though... The best, fastest, easiest way to get an answer is to ask... this will always be true...
Note: there are people who will advise this game or that game... Trust me, games have no place in relationships... they beat around the bush and sometime never do develop clarity... you leave yourself wide open to a lot of things that are not good for you... Game players are to be avoided... Later in life, you will do exactly that because you simply won't want to waste your time with them... I say, start now and develop into that adult that is confident in being able to TALK openly and honestly with women...

Well, maybe the girl is shy. I think you should tell her straight forword that you like her. If you are scared at first, you can even test her if she likes you by flirting. If she flirts back, she likes you, then just go for the big truth. ;)
