3 Marines were inadvertently left behind in Cambodia during the Mayagüez incident.

They were captured and executed by the Khmer Rouge.

NOT by choice EVER!

Unfortunately there are situations where there is nothing to bring back.

There have also been instances where multiple Marines DIED in an attempt to pull a WIA to safety.

There is ALWAYS a valant attemp for a WIA but sometimes a KIA is just impossible.

A Marine KIA would NOT want fellow Marines to die bringing his body back; look at the MIA figures from NAM.

"Special Forces" from any branch is a little different because youprobably weren't there in the first place and NOTHING is left behind.

Leave no man behind is a philosophy. There will always be times when you absolutely cannot get to an individual or their body. Every effort will be made to to retrieve them, but it means that you will keep the faith with them. You may have to come back for them later, but you will come back.

Nobody leaves anybody behind!!! but when you are in some heavy **** your first priority is to get out alive....you forget everything and everybody...and if you don't well then you become a hero with a missing limb and a purple heart....what would you do? or what would you think you would do in this case?

Of course they did. If they were on a mission and under fire, who could blame them for leaving a dead person behind.

They would probably go back to get the bodies later.

No, they have too strong a bond to their brothers to just leave a man behind.

Not for long.

If you have to ask, you don't get it.

Go away.
