I just got my braces off last week. I had them for a year and a half, I had jaw surgery AND I had them for 3 years about 10 years ago! And no, for the most part, they don't hurt. If you push on your teeth with your fingers, that pressure feeling is what braces will feel like. As your teeth move, that pressure will move to different spots. Your lips will also have to toughen up, so you will get sore spots from the metal chafing, but your orthodontist can give you this clear wax that you just mush over the sore spot for a day or two until it stops hurting, so no biggie there :) Make sure to take 2 Advil or Tylenol about an hour before you go in to get them put on or adjusted, and you'll be great! Good luck.

Your teeth hurt some for the rest of the day after the procedure, and then they're a little tender for a couple of days. But as far as the actual putting on of the braces, like the procedure, that doesn't hurt. And as for the two or so years you walk around with braces on your teeth, the only time it might hurt some is when the dentist adjusts them, and even that's not bad they just feel a little tight. And I'm pretty pain sensitive so if it didn't hurt me that bad, more likely than not it won't hurt you too badly. Don't worry.

First of all they don't hurt but they may feel uncomfortable the first 2 weeks. After a while you get used to them and hardly know that they're there any more.
A bit of advice when or if you get them...
Wear the rubber-bands as much as you can if assigned to you and if the braces are scratching your cheek like mine did get it fixed right away or it will be painful the whole time.

I think it all depends on your case. I am older and just got braces, and to be honest the first few days I was thinking what the heck did I do to myself, but then you get used to them fast. I have had NO problems with lips chaffing or sore gums. Just every so often one tooth will ache, then a differnet one the next day. You just learn to chew on the other side or eat a little softer foods the days they might bother you. Overall though, you will have sore days after you get them tightened, but otherwise, you get so used to them its no big deal at all.
I would recommend getting them, you'll be so glad you did. I can see such a difference in just 6 months and I am supposed to have them on for 18 more. I cannot wait to see just how great they will be then.

I found the most painful part were the first 3 days when elastics where placed between the second last and last teeth to create a space for the anchor points of the braces (I'm sure they have a fancy name). Your teeth move quite quickly in a short amount of time and your gums scream 'OUCH!'. Otherwise the rest is a piece of cake!

The only thing that hurt about them was that before I could get them put on, I had to have these small rubber bands placed around my back teeth to push them apart to make room.
It doesn't hurt getting them put on or getting them taken off.(At least it didn't hurt me).
If you play an instrument. Especially ones like the trumpet, they can really hurt your lips.
The metal wire kept getting busted on my braces and stabbing me in the cheek, so always keep your wax with you.

Initially, you'll feel pain, because the braces are moving teeth. (hence bone) But, you get used to it after time, or at least until they are adjusted. Basically, having braces is occasionally uncomfortable;e, but the results are astonishing!! Suerte!

No, but wearing them can - the metal will chaffe the insides of your lips, and I often had problems with the wire poking into the back of my cheek. The only solution is plenty of wax and ambisol!!
