i'm a confused 12 year old who weighs 110 ibs. I KNOW i'm not fat, but i KNOW i'm not skinny either. I kinda want to slender down a little because i took this online weight phase test that tells me where i am in my weight compared to the people around my age group. I'm 58%, so that means that i'm 8 pounds above average. Please don't tell me that it depends on height...the test covered that. I've just had these hormonal cravings for food, constantly. I haven't been growing much lately, and i know that it's best to not gain too much weight right before my growth sperg...it's healthier that way... and i want to know the healthiest way to lose 8 pounds, so that i can be average and not keep weighing more and more. I've gained 10 pounds in the past 2 years, and i'm freaking out. I need help to figure the healthiest way. I need help with excerise and dieting. I'm doing basketball and volleyball right now, i just need to cut back and feed my cravings w/out gaining 10 million pounds!!!!!

I am a bit sad to hear that you are 12 and thinking about dieting. You are still growing into your adult body and will change a lot over the next 3 or 4 years. Weight is the least important way of testing whether you are overweight.
Firstly I would throw away the scales. The best way of looking at fat is the fat fold around your waist. Get someone like a Dr or a PE teacher to show you how to use that to judge whether you need to lose a little weight.
Just adjust your diet and make sure you are eating good healthy food. No potato chips or soda. Increase fruit and vegetables. Don't smother everything with dressings or cheese. Eat moderate amounts of snacky food and only occasional treats like cakes and sweets. At 12 you should be getting a fair bit of exercise. If you spend a few hours a day sitting in front of TV or the computer then do 30 mins at least of exercise like steady walking or swimming.
I truly don't think you have a weight problem. Ignore those online tests. They are not necessarily done by medical experts. Most only make perfectly normal gorgeous girls anxious about their bodies.

You are misunderstanding the weight percentile.

A score of 58% does not mean you are 8 pounds overweight. If that is how it worked, I'd be considered to be almost 35 pounds overweight!!!!!

The weight and height percentile simply compares you to other people in your age group. For example, my brother was around 6'4" at age 16 and 17, he was making up the near 98/100 percentile. It just means he was near the top end of heights for his age.

Be careful. 8 pounds is nothing to write home about. You are young and growing, along with hitting puberty, expect weight gains and losses frequently.

Running is a real good way to lose weight. Also, dont eat late at night, perhaps after 8. Nothing to eat after 8. But Dont starve yourself. Stop drinking soda/pop.

Your thinking way ahead aren't you? Well, I hope your putting more concentration on your self-esteem, than the way you look. Looks are only skin deep, but your inner feeling about yourself is what really counts in the long run. Feeling good and confident about one self is most important about life. If you want to be so called "normal, just cut back on how much you eat at each sitting. It's not healthy thinking to become to obsessed about your looks and weight. Like I mentioned, how you feel about your self is your first priority!!!!

You gained 10 pounds in the past TWO years? You're pretty dang lucky! I gained 30!

10 pounds in two years is NOT muych at all... in fact i think thats healthy. In my opinion, its better to be 8 pounds overweight than underweight(boys dont think its attractive to be a skinny stick) but if u want to all i suggest are sit ups. while ur watching tv...STRETCH ur muscles. and please dont loose all 8 lbs....i would say have ur goal as 5 lbs because u might get caught up and loose more, so than u will loose 8 lbs....so i think you should switch your goal 2 5 lbs, and dont sweat it!!

hmm...when i was 12 i weighed like 80 pounds, i was way skinny, although i wish i wasn't, you are fine, as long as you are happy in the skin you are in, then nothing and no one can tell you other wise...

young lady you have nothing to worry about, just keep doing what your doing and enjoy your food keep being active like you are and when your growth spurt starts watch how slender you will be.
