We're African American, and caramel colored. I've noticed spots on both of my sons faces that are light. It's not ringworm or dry skin. These spots don't itch or cause any discomfort. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is associated with a skin condition.

Yeah see a dermatologist. My daughter has vitiligo, but my other two do not. I don't think it would be vitiligo if both kids have the spots.

I have a child who has this condition. At first it was just small little "lighter" spots (we are white). I had seen this with African Americans before, but never in a child as pale as mine. I asked the doctor and he said it was a pigmentation problem in his skin. So ask the doctor, I was told there wasnt much I could do about it and I've even had people ask me if hes been burned in the summer time.

My kids are white and got those in the summer time when they got tan. The doc said it was a form and possibly a type of fungus (sounds worse than it is) and exema and treated them for both. It went away or they grew out of it by teenagers.

If you can't get a good family Dr. to review, try a dermatologist - they KNOW SKIN!!

Go to a dermatologist. I'm from Guam and my brother is a caramel color as well. He got light spots on his shoulder and back. The doctor gave him salycic acid and told him to apply it to the area. He said it stung and it peeled like sunburn when he did it but after it stopped peeling, his skin was one color again.

To be sure, I would go and talk to a dermatologist but it could also just be the pigment in their skin.
