Some salad items are healthier than others. Iceberg lettuce is not used in shops and restaurents because it's healthy - more because it's cheap and it keeps well. For example baby spinach or rocket have loads of nutrients and taste great. When you make your own salads or burgers use these as well as or instead of lettuce. Tomato is also good as it has vitamin C.

An iceberg salad is not healthy. It is salads made with a mix of different greens that are healthy. All to often people hear that salad are good for you and assume they are talking about plain old iceberg lettuce when if fact they are talking about different types of lettuce are healthy for you.

I personally hate Iceberg lettuce with a passion. Expand your love of all things healthy to the other lettuces like Romaine or Radicchio or Endive! LOL!

Because there are no additional calories on that 300 grams of fat burger you are eating.

If you want a lettuce that has some nutrition, use Romaine.
If you make your burgers at home, mix diced celery and grated carrots into your ground beef. You won't taste them, but you will get an additional serving of vegetables. Top with Romaine or spinach, and tomatoes.

They green stuff is whats healthy cause it contains all the vitamins and nutrients produced by plants. Iceberg lettuce is absolutly useless except as a filler

there are several iceburg lettuce alternatives, including spinach, romaine lettuce, arugula, mixed greens, etc. to choose from. check out the prebagged salad section for a great variety. salad, consumed before a meal or AS a meal, usually results in less calories eaten, if you don't blow it on the dressing or other fatty/caloric additions. salad can be very healthy, especially when you cosider the variety of vegetables you can add: carrots, broccoli, green peppers, tomatoes, etc.

It's not healthy, especially when you load on all the dressing, croutons, etc. If you want a healthy salad but want it to actually taste good, try romaine lettuce, and some type of clearish dressing. Lite Itailion and stuff like that are actually good.

It adds good crunch to sandwiches, but that's about its only use. And, there are salads, and there are salads. Good salad: lots of dark greens--raw spinach, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, add any low-cal raw veggie--carrots, tomato, cucumber, radish, etc. and toss with a bit of reduced fat dressing (no fat dressing is yuckie, imho). Bad salad--adding calorie-dense items like bacon, bunches of cheese, croutons, olives, etc. and then drowning it in a full-fat dressing.

I'm not sure, I think it's because most people put other veggies in it. I personally use spinach because it has more health benefits.
