I've been using a straightner for years. This is the first time this has happened. I use to have very full unruly curly hair. I can't go without straightning, I don't like my curly hair. Just in the past 6 months my hair keeps breaking off. It's gone from waist length to shoulder length within those 6 months. It's also gotten thinner. What can I don to stop it? I always use heat protectants, and I use good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I don't understand whats going on. Can you help me?

Sounds like your hair is severly brittle and damaged from heat styling. I straighten every day as well, and my hair always breaks off. When I brush my hair, the whole floor and sink is covered in broken pieces of hair. If you dye your hair as well, it makes the damage even worse. The best thing to do is STOP straightening and don't dye for a month or two and see if anything changes, also get a trim to remove dead ends. When I get my trims, the second the scissors cut my hair, it seems to split immediately. It's damaged. Just give your hair a break for awhile and I think it will be okay. Those protectants don't work as well as they say!!

Give the straightening a break! At least for a while, and I would also try using conditioner and milk is supposed to make your hair silky with out the flat iron! Good Luck! Oh and I would also see my stylist to give me some tips on fixing your problem.

Well, it could be that you need to see a professional stylist, or possibly a dermatologist. A dermatologist could be able to tell you if there has been some type of damage to your scalp or hair follicles that could be causing the problems, and then could also give you some sort of treatment to help grow it back. It can be expensive, but it's worth it.

The best is a product called Straighten Out from FX Special effects. You can get it at any Walgreens.

use some heat oil treatment and wrap your hair in some mayonaise. this should help it from breaking off and instead of straitening just blowdry for a while just to give your hair a break from all that straitening.

If your hair is falling out or something... Then, that usually means you need a haircut/trim.
