They help the bride prepare for her wedding in any way they can, from helping her plan the wedding to doing errands, They also give her a bridal party of some sorts, help her get dressed for the big day, as well as any help she might need after the wedding!!

Being on time for the wedding and having a good attitude on the wedding day.
I hate it when people say it is the bridesmaids duty to pay for things like a bachelorette party and expensive updo hairstyles. Most BMs want to do things like that, but would you really cut someone who can't afford that? Would you want a friend to feel obligated to add to her debt to have a fancy manicure that will not show in your pictures anyway?

The purpose of the brides maids is to protect the bride from bad spirits. Basically what it means that back in the old days the brides maids used to dress almost like the bride to be so that on the brides way to the church the bad spirits would not know who the real bride was. Now in todays society is really nothing. The only person that has more responsibility is the maid of honor.

They are supposed to support the bride and assist her in wedding planning (addressing invites, wrapping favors, etc). They also throw her a bridal shower and bachelorette party.
Costs include: dress, shoes, hair, make up, nails, travel, hotel, bridal shower costs, bachelorette party costs

it really depends on the type of ceremony the bride is having. different ceremonies have different duties.
