Every Labour Day in Brooklyn, we have the West Indian/American Day Parade. What it is, is that each island in the Caribbean along with Guyana, Panama, Belize and some other Latin American countries have their floats, bands, people in costumes and trucks (mainly play soca, calyspo, and reggae music) marching along eastern parkway (which is home to many Caribbean people). There are also alot of vendors along the route that sells food, t shirts, flags, cd's, etc. Also on some of the floats, there would have some Caribbean artists (Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Rupee, etc.) At 12 am Labour day morning, Jovert (pronounced ju-ve) begins where people throw mud and powder on each other and from there, head straight to the parkway. It's a big party on the street in Flatbush. People go there to represent their country.
