To pick or not to pick? Zits?

Question

My Mom always says "Get the infection out!" The magazines say "leave it alone you'll make it worse!" I dont know what to do about zits! should i leave them alone or pop them? Which will help them go away faster?

leave them alone don't pop them you can make scars of your face if they feel really uncomfortable put a hot compress on it and if it is really swollen put an ice pack on it it will help take some of the swelling down.

I was at that point too. My dermatologist says to leave em alone and my mom keeps insisting to pop them. I looked up all over the internet for some remedies and I've found that some heat helps, like steam for example. Just be careful not to make it too hot and you'll probably see an improvement.

DON'T PICK AT THEM!!! Try this instead. I have an acne treatment that has won me the best answer better then twenty times. Often, the person who voted it the best answer was amazed at how well it worked, even those who had severe cases of acne. I'll copy and paste it below.

Use a hot compress on it (a washcloth, sponge, or anything that will allow you to apply moist heat to the area), and then use cool water to close the pores. Do the process over and over again, about five or six times. Use soap to wash the area, rinse it with warm water, blot off the excess water with a clean towel, and then treat it with an alcohol soaked cotton ball. It should be gone within five to six hours.

sometimes, when you pop them out, there should some oitment of kind that you put on the top of the popped zit so that it will disappear completely. if you pop them out with no help from dermas, i think it won't be helpful. just leave it there and do the 3 steps of facial care. facial wash-cleansing-moisturizing. if you want, buy some of your trusted brand of pimple, whatever that is-remover (if there's any). maybe that'll help.

but NEVER squeeze bla ckheads or little red spots!

Its best to leave it alone. When you burst it you cause damage to the neighboring tissue and run the risk of scarring.
