when dropped from an 11 story building, the egg landed first. the chicken came later

funny enough, there were eggs before there were chickens

dinosaurs were laying eggs way back more than 80 million years ago. and creatures layed eggs before then as well

the chicken hasn't been around as long.

as for the chicken egg?

there are two schools of thought. there is the religious thought that the chicken was commanded to exist, and so did, and thus was there before the egg

there is the scientific thought of evolution. as the years progressed, offshoots of certain lizards would have different features. a beak. this helped ensure the beaked "freak" would survive because it had a better way of handling prey. it had a better weapon. the babies would be the same. then other small changes that were freakish at first, but helpful, would ensure that "freak" survived. this is called natural selection. in this thought, the egg came first, and gave birth to an animal that was a freak of nature, which ultimately became the chicken we know today.

The egg came first, but the real question is who owns the egg, the chicken or the farmer?

The answer is basically this, when Adam and Eve were created, they were adults, not babies, because who would have fed and brought them up. The same with the egg, if it had hatched it would have died as its parent would not be there to strengthen it by feeding it and keeping it warm as it grew, so therfore the chicken or chickens came first, layed the eggs, nurtured them, made them strong and then life continued in the same manner.

Chicken, because something evolved into it, and then it started to lay eggs. When the first chicken was formed, it wasn't an egg...

the chicken, becuase it evolved from another creature. The fact that it now lays eggs is a result of a change in the environment.

it was the egg because the bird that laid the egg was not a chiken but a different species that mated with another different species so in fact what came out the egg was a hybrid of the original bird and that is what we call a chiken!

There would have been no egg without the chicken. I have no idea how there was a chicken without an egg. hmm...interesting.

I guess i agree with Jim because how could the first chicken evolve without hatching? so i bet you it was the egg.
