Doesn't much matter as long as you use commercial grade. usually the quality of the footage on standard recorders will not reflect what you want to accomplish...and that is something professional looking.

traditionally for standard definition, docus are made with a Canon XL 2 and Panasonic DVX100A. These are about 2500$ USD and up.
If you don't have that kind of budget then the 3 CCD Panasonic consumer camcorders have very nice picture.

Sony's I found to be very good cameras and also Canon , but for moving pictures verses photos and digital , it might be more expensive but search out the three chip sensors that detect detail and color correctness , they are used in the professional grade cameras .
