A medical doctor listens to or observes patients' medical condition. From this, a doctor orders tests to be done on the patient to confirm the initial suspicions of the illness. After the test results are reported, the doctor prescribes treatment (usually medicine) for the patient.
The pharmacist receives prescriptions for medicine ordered by the physician for treatment of the patient. The pharmacist must know all other medications the patient is receiving to check for interactions. The pharmacist must warn the doctor and patient if the prescription has problems with other medication.
Educational requirements for a doctor are longer and more rigorous than for a pharmacist. Both make excellent pay, but typically, doctors earn more money. Doctors tend to be "on-call" all the time. Pharmacists have a more traditional type of employment, thus have more time for their personal pursuits. Either choice of profession would be rewarding for you. Good luck.

A doctor is an extremely high paid professional who prescribes the medicine to you and has gone to school for at least 8 years after high school. It is difficult to become a doctor in the United States.

A pharmacist is a relatively highly paid professional who fills your prescription at a local pharmacy or in your case a hospital.
