I think the hardest thing that you can do is change your diet. About 5 years ago, I decided it was time to make a change in my eating habits - I used to eat a lot of junkfood and fried foods.

I think the easiest way to make change is to do so gradually. Start out by adding more fruits and veggies to your diet and cutting back on things are not good for you (like junk food). Replace your white bread with whole grain wheat breads and watch your sugar intake. Drink lots of water. Consider organic foods as well.

Also, eat smaller, more frequent meals - this helps to keep your blood sugar more level and keeps you from binging on lots of unhealthy foods.

Just make the changes gradual and think about putting good things into your body for your health. Eventually, you will feel better from eating good food and it will improve your workouts.

Good luck to you!

Don't keep anything in your house that is a weakness for you. If you can't stop with the ice ceam then don't get any. Its all self control. I think that the best thing to do is make things serving size. You can have some, but not all of it. So if you eat too much at dinner a good thing to do is cook what you normally would and then put half away for another meal. Put it away before you eat the other half. Then you will be less likley to get it back out. Eat more small meals. If you like fresh fruit then its always a good snack. Drink water when you feel like you need something to eat between meals. Sorry I'm random. I found it very easy to control myself when I was pregnant becase I didn't want to gain a lot of weight. After though, its like I can't stop myself. I gotta get myself back on track. If only we could listen to ourselves! Good luck. Get a friend to help you though!

Write down everything you eat, even if you just have a bite of cake. Try to guess the amount as well. For example:
bowl of Fruity Pebbles with 2% milk
half Snickers
Ham sandwich with mayo and 2 slices of American cheese

And so on. Be as specific as possible and don't leave things off. This way you can look at the list at the end of the day and say, "I had a lot of food for lunch, but I wasn't that hungry" or notice that you eat a lot of chips when you didn't even realize it before. Then you have a record of your diet, and you can consciously make changes. Sure, it is tedious, but it might make you think twice before grabbing an unhealthy snack. It cuts down on compulsive eating because you start to constantly try to remember everything you ate so you can write it down.

Another good trick to curb compulsive eating is that when you reach for something, stop what you are doing and count to 30 or so. If you still want it, you can have it because you thought about it for a moment. A lot of times, you'll probably realize that you don't really want to eat it, you just want something to do.

Good luck!

Try eating more often throughout the day, with fewer portions. It may take a bit of time to get out of the habit of eating bad stuff, so give yourself that. Don't keep bad stuff at home, that really helps. Also, sometimes it takes plain ol' self-discipline to eat right. Eventually, you'll get to liking eating right and prefer it, and even abhor the bad stuff.
