as stated before - there is a Gracie Diet - try this link -

http://www.gracie.com/diet/tips.html

A good work out out would be what you do in class - the more classes you do the fitter you will become - there is little use in running a marathon a week, as that is not the fitness required for grappling. There is little use being able to bench 400 lbs from numerous weight sessions - as its not going to help you a whole heap in BJJ.

Hears what you should be doing in class--

Run around the matted area
touch the ground while running
side steps - iwards
sidesteps outward
2 in 2 out
run backwards
change direction
Arms up and down
Arms back and forward
Push ups
Sit ups
Neck exercises - yes's - no's - side to side
Arm Bar drills- purely drilling - not technique
Triangle drills
Leap frog - then through the legs
Breakfall and rolls
Upa Drill
Shrimping
4 or 5 techniques
Positional Sparring to include these techniques
Positional sparring
Normal sparring
Warm down and stretch

Im knackered just thinking about it.

I get by on 2 classes a week - but I shopuld do more- wanna get good you wanna be doing 3/4 classes a week 1 of those should be takedown - either wrestling or Judo. Throw in a couple of 2/3 mile runs - and mix those up as you go and you'll be awesome.

Stick at it, it is well worth the while.

Im a firm believer in there is something for everyone - it took me ages to find the right diet and now I live a Low Carb Lifestyle and it has suied me very well. If the Gracie Diet isnt really your thing, this is something else to consider.

Hope all goes well

It depends on which bjj you are talking about. Alot of bjj is very sport oriented but still very effective in a fight. The bjj developed by the Gracie family however is geared more toward a real street fight, much more so than any other martial art I have seen or trained in. Gracie jj is the most well developed, no nonsense martial art I have ever seen. Remember it was developed by a smaller man to defeat larger much stronger opponents and perfected through years of actual, real fighting. No matter who you are or what style martial art you practice you can only benefit from learning the fighting techniques of real Gracie jiu hit Su.

diet wise try eating eggs and oat meal and thing like that... as far as workout try getting a hold of a medicine ball and doing jump squats, sit ups, mountain climbers, and pretty much just try 2 work out your core because if you have been in jiu jitsue very long u will relize that it has 2 do with everything in the hips.

if you you want to lose weight you the only thing you do is exercise ,about the diet go on the Royce Gracie diet it on his home page. if your just starting get in the habit putting your self in pain just a Little bit longer when you get submitted it will help in the future. good luck in your journey.

NOTE: the guy above me called Bushido don't listen to a word he says hes full of **** the reason he hates bjj is because hes a kung fu ***** and he jealous because bjj can always beat kung fu and how everybody is doing bjj instead of kung fu take a look at hes question and answers and you'll no what i mean.hes stubborn he would"nt apply bjj to kung fu to minimize hes weakness .

bjj workout take left hand put on right penis take right hand put on left penis now your the best fighter in the world.
diet the quicker you lose weight the quicker you put it back on,so go slow.avoid all the commercial type diets the best diet is to use common sense.it'll get you into good habits so the diet and nutrient factors just become an every day part of life,so you'll be fitter, healthier longer.and a lot of the foods that are good for you but most ppl dont eat are nice once you get used to eating them.
no takeaways!fresh food.be carfeul with fruit, ppl just assume there good to eat but some of them are high in sugar.cut back beer consumption,1 carton a day is heaps.hahaha.
anyway you get the picture?it's about lifestye not just a crash diet to be able to do something.
fyi.dick i dont do kung fu (look at my name ********) and i was doing bjj long before it became popular and your proving my point about bjj students knowing all and thinking there indestructable.anyone with a tiny piece of a brain knows your better of on your feet.
