I'm sorry to hear that you are depressed. You don't mention what country you are from or why you don't have a doctor.
If your problem is financial you may be able to find a clinic type place where they have a sliding scale for payment based on income.
You may also qualify for medical assistance or medicaid. Those are federal programs. Your state may have it's own program as well. These programs are for people who happen to have financial problems but who need medical help. Don't be afraid to go for help because some people call it "welfare".

If you are afraid to ask for help don't be. You may not need a psychiatrist. Many times a therapist is all you need. That is a person who is trained, licensed and qualified to listen to you and guide you through your hard times.
It's nice that you have friends to listen and support you maybe one of them could help you find some professional help.
If you are in elementary or high school, go to your school nurse or a trusted teacher or guidance counselor and let them know how you've been feeling and that you would like some help.
If you are in college you can do the same thing and sometimes colleges have support services specifically designed to help people who feel the way you do.
If you work some employers have programs that can aid you in finding help in your city or town. Most times those programs are done anonymously and don't report any information to your employer.
If there is a family problem that prevents you from getting outside help then use the internet. There are national organizations that have chat rooms and even nurses/therapists to talk to in emergency situations. There are many suicide hotlines available and their numbers are on the internet, I realize you may not be feeling that bad, but they may be able to find contacts in your community.
Depression can be a side effect of other illnesses so a family doctor may be able to help you too.

Whatever you do keep reaching out. Don't give up! Contact anybody...even like you did here...someone always cares. There are so many people affected by depression that you should be able to find help somewhere.
I hope this has helped. Remember to look up depression/mental health/suicide on the internet - there are many many places ready to help you.

Depression, I know from experience, can be caused by a blow to ones self esteem. It (the insult) can come from another person, a situation, or from your own negative, critical thinking about yourself. The first sign of a depression is a sinking, down feeling which may go away but if you dwell on it with negative thoughts it may persist. If it does the sad feeling may get stronger which may bring on more negative thinking. and so on in a reinforcing cycle. The thing you have to do is break up that reinforcing cycle of negativity and sad feelings.

Don't deny that you are thinking negatively! the conclusion to your question was the negative assumption, "...so that means I'm screwed?" You asked for "easy ways and steps" to get rid of depression. The fist step is to substitute that pattern of negative thinking with positive thoughts. It is not easy at first. The low feeling and the negative thinking go together so that as soon as you relax your will a negative thought will slip in to start it all over.

You have to first discover some positive things to think about. A memory of a happy or succesful time or a loved ones good comments about you are examples. As you think about these positive things the low, sad feeling will begin to abate making it easier to recall happy moments and avoid lapsing again into negativity. Voila, at last you will begin to feel happier and less down and more energetic. This renewed energy will allow you to get on with a good life! You weren't really "screwed" at all were you?

you need to get a therapist....doctor, social worker, psychologist, a professional in the field. friends make great support but are not therapists as most people have their own issues and they are not equipped to help you. you need to find a professional to help you or it will never improve
