Don't know where you are located or if your father has insurance or not...

Here are some ideas:

Talk to the hospital or medical provider about the situation and see if they have any programs that can help, or if they would be willing to lower the bill, accept some type of payment plan, etc.

Do a search for medical insurance assistance.

If it is a hospital bill Check with the hospital that he was in Most hospitals have programs that will pay for your medical bills if you cannot afford to pay them.. Its more or less they just wipe them off the books if your qualify. Good luck with your Papa

An adult needs to speak with the social worker at the hospital. (They all have them) The social worker will aid you in where to apply for aid and usually have the forms right there at their office. You also may contact your local Dept. of Public Welfare if you have one where you live. (This runs by county, so there may not be an office right in your town, but you can still apply. ) ALSO, you can have him apply for disability Social Security at any age. Someone can fill out the papers for him and he can sign them if he isn't able to do it all himself. Disability can be permanent or temporary. You can get the papers sent to you. They have a toll free number in any phone book as they are under FEDERAL government. You can look up either online too.
Don't know what state you are in so I wouldn't know the site for dpw, but you can search for it if available in your state and the Social Security one is as follows:

You might try the faimly and children services. They helped me one time pay medical and utilities. I was single and with a child at the time but they did help.
