The femur is the strongest bone in the body and if you have ruled out abuse then your doctor needs to be looking at why the bone fractured. There can be various reasons.
My son, although not an infant at the time, had a problem with his femur too - he was 4. Happy, healthy, very active child - came home complaining of a pain in his leg. Knowing how active this child was - I did check him all over for bumps and bruises but found none. We let it go for a couple of days but I would ask him about it. He still complained of pain.
I made an appointment with the doc - who sent us on our way grrr and said come back in a week if he was still complaining. Within a few days he was starting to fall down the stairs because his leg could not support him.
When they did finally xray him - what they found was a hole in the middle of the femur at the top with only the circumference of the bone left. He was right off his feet - bone transplant - cast - and back to normal now.
If we hadn't stopped him from walking he could have fractured right thru the femur (which was the fear of the Pediatric Surgeon) - but there was no external signs on the leg something was wrong. So I hope that your doctor checks into all avenues to find out why the childs leg was broke - there is always a reason.

its not always child abuse-although it is a factor that should be considered. remember that infants are inquisitive by nature and tend to climb up on things etc. maybe there was an underlying problem with the femur in the first place (weakened bone structure). in any event if the infant was a victim of abuse there would be accompanying marks (bruising burns etc). so look at all the facts first before jumping to conclusions.

Being an infants bones are still quite flexible, this would have had to been a VERY traumatic event. I have only one case in my 10 years of working with children and it was child abuse, both femurs, broken!! Please call child line immediately if you suspect any foul play. 1-800-932-0313 all reports remain confidential!!

Child abuse is a possibility, but there are other possible causes.
Best bet is to err on the side of caution...the child needs to have a physical examination to determine what type of fracture and possible reasons/causes to rule out abuse.

a break like that is caused by some pretty severe trauma...child abuse, an accident etc. i hope you have had them to a doctor and checked out. if this did not happen in your care you need to have a talk with the person who it did. i'd call the cops

child abuse - call police and report if this has happened. You are obligated by law to report - or you could be held equally liable for not allowing medical treatment.

i agree with the others, if this child is indeed in danger, please help them. infants are not really active enough to cause such an accident themselves.
please call the authorities now
