Tickets, passpost and money. Check to see if your cellphone is
tri-band or a dual band (capable if being used outside of the country). Most phones nowadays are tri-band, but check or you may not be able to use it. Also, I would take your ATM card which can be used all over. Most importantly...good walking shoes.

How long and where? Everything you bring will depend greatly on your destination. If you are headed to the North where it's mostly winter, pack winter stuff like 1 rain parka, 1 thermal jacket, 2-3 long thermal-sleeved shirts for layering, about 6 underwears for short trips, a dozen for longer trips, a toothbrush, a moisturizer, small shampoo (if you can even take a bath with the extreme weather) & tooth paste (to be-checked in), personal hygiene stuff. Bring 2 jeans and lots of socks.

For warmer climate: pack light by bringing no more than 6 shirts, 2 jeans, a sandal/rubber shoes, pair of socks, few underwears and light sweater then your personal hygiene stuff.

Lastly, bring medications like for cough/colds/fever, anti-motility for those darn loose movement, aspirin/analgesic and at least 1 menthol oil (to be checked-in) to relieve those tired muscles after a long day of gallivanting.

Most importantly, your basic travel docs must be in your hand-carry at all times: visa, passport, tickets, insurance, credit card, traveller's checks, and CASH...

Enjoy and have fun.

Check with the airport what type of things you can carry in your luggage as your suitcases will be screened. If you need medication make sure that you have a doctors certificate.Certain things are banned like scissors etc because of terrorists.Where are you going? It would help to know? Enjoy your trip.

Depends on where you are going. I would always bring some xeroxed copies of your passport, wet wipes, bug spray, matches, led, comfortable hoody sweater, sturdy string, super glue, portable alarm clock, some type of energy bar or trail mix. I can't think of anymore, everything else can be bought when you get there. Have fun!

Oh my.... what kind of overseas are you going to? USA, China, Japan, Iraq????

What you take along depends on where you're going. If a cold country, bring a warm light weight jacket.... don't forget if you fly, you are limited to 20 or 30 kg so you don't want to take anything heavy. etc.
