I have curly hair, and I gave up on straightening it after I found it took forever and it never stayed perfect for even an hour... I love my curly hair, but sometimes you just need a change once in a while, you know? I heard the ceramic flat irons work best, but there are so many brands out there, all just as expensive as the other, and I want to make sure I get a top brand. I love that they actually WORK and your hair STAYS straight and doesn't dry out! I saw there were ionic ceramic ones, but they seem like just another gimmick that's out there... What are the good brands for just normal ceramic flat irons? I'm caucasian and have very long (about half way down my back when straight, shoulders when curly), thick hair. Thanks!

OH! And what is the type of product called that protects your hair while straightening?? That's probably important too!

CHI OF COURSE!! a lot of brands claim to be ceramic, but chi is one of the few brands that not only the plates of the iron but all of the interworkings are ceramic too. what good is a ceramic "plated" iron be if behind it was some harsh metal? they are expensive but they really work and are so worth it. they have different types, but the origional will do just fine. The turbo doesn't get as hot as the origional so don't fall for the flashy package. they have a new super expensive one out too called the nano-silver, antibacterial, yada yada-I like my plain old-and so do a few girls I work with. They come in fun colors now, which of course cost more-but you can get a black one for like $130-good luck and make sure you use a good product between your hair and that flat iron : )

Chi straighteners are fantastic!

They straighten your hair so it like stick straight but it also doesnt ruin your hair. If you are willing to pay top of the line I HIGHLY recommend this straightner. Aldo, if you need a straightening iron hair protector you can use Design Line's straightening iron protector it's really good. Also, I recommend using Design Line's mousse because you wont have to get your hair cut as often. Good Luck!

Paul Mitchell has a good Ceramic iron. Use a 1".
Or CHI has one.
You have to order those through a hairdresser.

Also, while at your hairdresser----tell her you also need something on your hair to help straighten and protect it from the heat.

CHI would probably work best for you.
It not only straightens in one swipe, but it doesn't damage as much as the other irons, and also prevents static and helps your hair to not wave out on a humid day:)

I highly recommend the HAI Convertable flat iron. I saw it at an upscale salon for $120 & I bought mine at www.folica.com for $80 (and free shipping! it was quick too) You
can check out that website, people even post pictures of their results :) I've had my HAI flat iron for over 2 years & have friends that bought them after they kept complimenting my hair. Naturally, it is curly but when I flat iron it, you would NEVER know. Good Luck :)

I have a bablyss... or babliss I'm not sure how it's spelled but it works amazingly... it only takes me 10 minutes to straighten my hair and it's ceramic so it doesn't damage my hair... you should definitely look into it. You have to keep in mind you need to spend money for a good quality one... Conair I find is poor quality and it takes forever and it fries your hair... I spent $120 on mine and it works amazingly... :) My friends also have Bablyss and it works amazingly for them as well.

My hair is hard to strighten too. And it is long, thick, and curly. I like to have my hair different ways too. I just got a paul mitchel one and it works fantastic. I love it. It can be used for ethnic hair too. You can adjust to tempature. Or a chi one is great too. But you can't adjust the temp on that one.
