No, you are doing GREAT!!!
Your hair must be about like mine. Dry enough that it doesn't even get dirty till like four days after I shampoo. My skin is dry also. Actually, we are VERY lucky.
What WILL dry your hair out is OVER-drying. It doesn't take long for hair to dry.
AND using your straight iron too long on one strand will dry it out.
You need a protection on your hair to use a flat iron.

It seems like you are being too hard on your hair. You generally don't need to wash your hair so often because that dries out the natural oils in your hair and leaves hair looking frizzy and dull - every week is fine, or if you have a compulsion to do it sooner, go ahead, but I don't see the point of washing it every 3 days...unless you use some heavy duty hair product which you need to wash out. Since you straighten your hair the day after you blow dry it I would suggest to air dry it the day before, like overnight as you sleep let it dry naturally, and also put in a leave-in conditioner while the hair is damp so that it will retain some sort of moisture and won't be completely fried from all the things you do to it. When you ise the hair straightener, first make sure it is a ceramic one, because that lessens the damage, and before you straighten the hair, spray on a blow dry/hair straightening protective spray which will further shield your hair from heat and will make it healthier and shinier.

It is always better for your hair not to use heated appliances, but if your hair is quite short ti really doesn't matter what you do as it is not around for long enough to get damaged.
If your hair is long you might want to rethink things - but you can easily see whether you have a problem. Pluck out one of your longest hairs and examine it in a magnifying glass or a microscope if you haev access to one. If the end of it is cut off sharp you have no problems. If it is split into two or more bits you need to exercise more care. If the end of it looks like a little paintbrush then you should totally rethink your whole strategy.

Well yes it does dry out hair but it's good you don't do this daily. Always use a good conditioner and a protective spray before heating. Once a month use a hot oil hair product.
You are right to be worried but if you follow the above you'll be fine.
