You will need a CD burner as well as software such as Nero Burning Rom (typically when you burchase a CD burner it comes with the required software).

If you don't currently have a CD burner you will need to purchase and install one. They are not very expensive these days, and are fairly easy to install.

If you are going to purchase one, you may want to look into a DVD burner. They are only slightly more money, but can burn both CDs and DVDs. CDs hold up to about 700 Megs of information. DVDs can hold a couple of Gigs (1 Gig = 1024 Megs).

If you want to write a file to a CD - that is, use it as a floppy, you must use CD/RWs and they must be formatted with the software that powers your burner.

My Samsung burner uses Nero. With Nero, I format a CD/RW and then can use it as a floppy, however, it cannot be read on anyone else' computer unless that computer has Nero's Easywrite Reader (a small program which you download from Nero) and read onto a different PC.

For data, why not use a flashdrive or external hard drive? Much easier.

As long as you have a CD or DVD burner just highlight the files and drag to the CD drive. Follow the menus that pop up.

Put a blank disk in the destination drive.
Double-click the icon for that drive. The next window should be empty.
Drag the file(s) from wherever you have them to the destination drive.
Click on anything like "Burn To CD".

You would need a CD burner. I have Nero Home Essentials. It has instrutions to go with it so you wouldn't have any problems.
