How many ppl in the us have arthritis? What causes it to begin and how does it begin?

I don't know how many but the number is quite large. There are several kinds of arthritis. One type is caused by just wear and tear on the joints and they just simply wear out the cartilage between the bones.
My father had the other kind. It is an auto-imune disease where the bodies imune system attacks the glands that produce lubricants for the joints and the joints wear out. It can attack people of any age, and can be crippling. It is treated with drugs that suppress the imune system. Unfortunately for my dad, he died within a few days of comming down with a flu. His suppressed imune system was unable to fight off a cold that would have only made most of us sick for a day or two.

It feels like a piece of pipe rubbing up against your spine. Sometimes it feels like clacking wind up teeth up against the bony sections of your body and it just keeps going and going. What causes it? The list is long. However, diet and exercise is one answer in making it worse.
