If a person has fluid in the lungs and they don't have pneumonia then it's an indicator of heart failure (the heart isn't working effectively so fluid is building up in the body). Does this person retain water (swollen ankles and feet etc)? The two things together are scary. A trip to the doctor at least, I would suggest the hospital myself.

sometimes fluid in the lungs can be just that. But sometimes it is a early sign of pneumonia.

When someone has fluid in their lungs they should consult with their doctor, because that is one of the signs of pnemonia.

I would call your doctor at least and at most tell him/her to meet you at your local emergency room. It could be pnuemonia or congestive heart failure, either way you need to get to the hospital ASAP
