It burns and kills all the bacteria in the mouth by getting all around the mouth easily .Some places a toothbrush can't reach, mouth wash reaches the whole mouth better because it's a liquid. It burns which means it's working. lol. I turned red when it's in there too long lol

Keep in mind your mouth, just like your stomach, needs certain bacteria to function properly. Are you just trying to get rid of bad breath? If so, then it's not the bacteria you want to get rid of, it's the sulfur compounds that cause odor.
Alcohol in mouth rinses is not good for a variety of reasons. I work with dentists and at a recent trade show I met a hygienist who has a patient with oral cancer. The cause: excessive rinsing with a common "feel the burn" product. It has a high alcohol content and alcohol acts as a desiccant (removes moisture) which leads to problems over time.
Check out my article at the link below for all the details on why alcohol in mouth rinses is bad and why we need certain bacteria in our mouths.

Disinfectants....but I am not so sure that it is a good idea. Many of those bacteria are there for a reason. They are actually your first line of defense in the battle against outside germs. Think of them as symbionts. They get a place to live filled with food and you get a microscopic army ready to do battle with any invaders. The best way to handle any harmful oral bacteria is to brush and floss. This targets only those bacteria bent on destroying your teeth and gums. Let the good bacteria live!

A mouthwash will kill germs. It can do so with alcohol, or like Biotene it will use natural lysosyme. However you will never kill all the bacteria, so after a period of time the remaining ones will reproduce, faster if you eat sugars. Using a waterpic dental appliance will clean under the gums and clean out food where all the really nasty bacteria exist.

You have the answers above but one additional thing that needs to be mentioned as a must. Mouthwash kills both the bad bacteria as well as the good bacteria. Excessive use is therefore not recommended.

mouthwashes like listrine or colgate etc genrally contails small quantity of cleansing agents to clean food particle from your mouth..but mainly consist of antimicrobials which inhibit the activity of bacteria..and practically u get smaller amount of bacterial removal and majorly bacterial inactivation for several hours..
