most people do not want a female because it may have unexpected babies. and they are too cheap too get it fixed . they do not want the babies cause if they are mutts it is harder to get rid of. and one thing for sure, do not think l am putting mutts down. l have a couple. And they are so dumb thinking that a male is all safe. When in fact a male can smell a female in heat and will travel to get to her, then there is the chance the male could get hit by cars or the owner of the female might report the male and have it hauled off. So it just prove to have both sexes fixed. Right.????

The only thing I can think is that they don't want to deal with spaying her and think males would be better for that reason. I can't imagine why, females are so smart and calm down much faster than males do. I have noticed when I go to shelters, the females are the ones always available and they have way more than males. Personally, I only want females unless I seen a male who was in more of a need of a home.

In the cases that I am aware of, it is harder to place females because males are much harder dogs for certain jobs and sports. NVBK for example, has no females competing. KNPV has very few. Females are just not as hard as males in temperament and cannot take the corrections needed and stay in drive. And they have to compete last in a trial or during training. Female dogs were going for $200-300 a couple of years ago in certain parts of Europe, the ones that were not being culled, while males were being sold for $2000. Many people feel that females are too soft for real protection work and will not take the chance of trying. And, as many people here mentioned, they do have certain problems like pregnancy and heat cycles during which they are not as reliable.

Because people don't want to deal with the periods, babies & spaying . I like a female dog better than a male; if the female is spayed she makes a better pet & won't be rambling off or looking for a mate and is easier to train.

because for some reason some people actually believe that males make better pets and better watch dogs ans watch cats . they also think that males are more loving than females . I do not agree I think that females and males are both kind and loving it just depends on the way they are raised and the kind of tempermant that their parents had . I had a female cat who was loving and sweet I know have a male cat and he is just as sweet and loving he does not like to cuddle as much as my female did but that will change in time I wish that more people would realize that males and females both have kind and gentle hearts and that either one would make a great pet

Just as others have said. Females may have unwanted offspring and people tend to not want the responsibility of spaying. I like both sexes and will neuter or spay as necessary. Have a great year.

because once the female finds home she stays home. you rarely find lost dogs that are female. the males are the ones that run around becase of hormones looking for girlfriends. the females are harder to place in homes because it is harder for them to bond to a new place.

They are? I have always found homes for my females than I have for my males. Maybe if you have a "manly" breed is is because most men want male dogs.

Why do you assume that's the case?

At our shelter, female dogs always get adopted much more quickly than the males do.

They don't want a female because she can have puppies and they have to deal with them. Why can't people learn to get their dogs spayed and neutered. There are those who will not get a male because he will pee on everything. Same thing here, just get hom fixed. With our Chihuahuas it is different. Almost everyone wants a female.
