there are 2 ways to use a CD-RW ...

use it as a plain old CD-R and then erase it to use it again ... OR

format it as a CD-RW using DirectCD or inCD or whatever came with you burner. This will make it work like a giant floppy disc allowing you to rename/add/delete files. Few people are aware of this =)

when you try to access the files on another PC, a small driver that is placed on the CD by the format program called UFS (universal file system) is loaded to read the disc. The problem is it is unreliable and is often only editable on the machine that formatted it.

It doesn't really work that way. RW just means rewritable. If you have a program (like nero) you can burn a cd, save the session, and then when you want to change something you can just put in the cd and open up that same session. Usually when you do that, what's really happening is that the cd is being erased and rewritten with the new information.

If it was your intent to use a CD/RW as a floppy, according to the User's Guide for my Samsung and Dell, you would have to use a CD/RW and format it with the software that powers your burner.

You will then be able to open the CD/RW on your PC. If you want to take the CD/RW to another PC, you must go to the web site of your burner's software and download their "reader" program. (A small program which will allow you to open the CD/RW.) You will have to then put the reader onto the PC which is to open the CD/RW.

Example: Samsung uses Nero, Dell uses Roxio.

With an RW disc you should be able to do that. Check the permissions on the files, that might be the problem. Sometimes that gets set to read only by default.

You can edit before you burn. A CD-RW is simply a rewritable disk. Once you made it you can alter it, but some files may not be seen in explorer.

you can't modify it,, you just can add or delete,,
So better modify or rename it before burning the CD

A CDRW is not a live disc. as in you cannot write to it whenever. you have to erase it and redo it with the changes. sorry
