Anyone who wasn't afraid was crazy, but as a fighter pilot, there was a lot less to fear.

I don't think he was any more afraid than anyone else, and would have gladly gone if called.

First of all is their evidence to show that he wasn't? I have heard so many rumors that "no" he didn't serve and "yes" he did serve in the airforce. So what's the real truth here? If he didn't serve and dodged the draft then "yes" he probably was afraid like some others that dodged the draft and didn't want to be involved in the Vietnam War.The Vietnam War was the ten year war just like Iraq could be now. A civil war that won't end. Clinton didn't serve but that doesn't make him a bad person.Whether Bush did or did not doesn't make him a bad person they just didn't make the right decision at that time. Ali dodged the draft but people still liked him.Society had decided their fate. If you dodged the draft then you weren't an American.True Americans fought for their country.Well..that may be so but it wasn't our country that we were saving at this time it was Vietnam. Now the US has a thing about helping other countries when in trouble. Ok that's fine but sometimes I feel that the US steps into a war without really needing too to where our military troops die off one by one in the thousands upon thousands. Now I can't actually speak for these certain people that dodged the draft or Vietnam but I imagine that if it was our Country that was under attack that these men or Presidents would have been first in line to protect our beloved country. We lost so many in the Vietnam War and we should honor the ones that we did lose and the ones that were lucky enough to make it back home.

Of course George Bush was not afraid to go to Vietnam. I went to Vietnam but the thing I am afraid to most of all in my life is to give a speech in front of people or participate in a live debate in front of people. Bush has done those things and, at least for me, those are much scarier than what I did in Vietnam.

Bush got an Air Guard slot in 1968 and by the time he was trained to fly the jets in his unit (this takes at least two years), the Vietnam war was winding down. In fact, the peace treaty was signed in Jan 1973 and most all troops were out way before that. In fact, even the planes he flew were being replaced, so he would have had to retrain in new aircraft (another year or so) before he would have even been effective as a pilot.

Bush has gotten a bum rap about his service hyped up inversely porportional to Bob Dole's heroic WW II service versus Bill Clinton's non-existent service - yet Bob Dole's service meant nothing when he ran against a media-backed liberal real draft dodger.

This is commonly called a double standard. One standard for Democrats and one for Republicans. Of course, Republicans are held to a much higher standard than Democrats.

I think anyone with a normal instinct for self preservation was afraid to go to Vietnam. The question is more about what people did in the face of that fear.

Some served, some dodged, some fled to Canada.

In my opinion to say, "At least Bush served" does a disservice to all of those who really did serve. Getting your dad to pull strings to get you a cushy stateside national guard assignment and not even show up regularly for that should not be lumped in with those who actually engaged in combat.

i replaced into there....there have been an entire lotta people who did no longer volunteer for Vietnam....that rather did no longer make any distinction no remember in case you needed to or no longer. i did no longer volunteer yet replaced right into a factor of a Marine unit that replaced into sent early in the conflict. and that i might desire to show our that there have been a great form of national take care of instruments shipped out for Nam in the time of that conflict so i might think of that they had a shot of going previously it replaced into throughout. additionally, there have been a ton of adult adult males that have been in the provider that did no longer go even nevertheless it lasted for 10 years. a minimum of he served his u . s . on the comparable time Clinton replaced into off in England averting the draft and demonstating against the conflict in a foreign places u . s .. did no longer seem to remember to the Dems as that replaced into their modus operandi in the process the full conflict. while the Rep got here into the presidency all of surprising the Dems obstructed the conflict attempt at each and every turn and that they are people who began it!!! So do no longer tell me with regards to the extreme and effective libs. They nonetheless have blood on their palms from the three million who died in southeast asia while we left. and that i did no longer see one swinging d*** protesting the slaughter of all those undesirable souls---extra then have been killed in 10 years of conflict. the full ingredient replaced into politics from the interest go and the libs have not replaced their stripes. they might enable tens of millions die to prop up their very own "compassionate" occasion. and that they are attempting to do it returned. Humanity be damned. we could do what's politically best no remember what the fee. What Kerry did replaced into commendable. yet his comments when you consider that shows that he has little know for grunts who do the heavy lifting. He extra perfect desire the infantrymen he disparaged by potential of telling a set of faculty pupils that in the event that they did no longer shop their grades up they could bring about Iraq, are good adequate to guard his bony *** while the the enemy comes knocking at our front door next time. of course he isnt the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

His Unit didn't deploy. If they would have deployed he would have gone. No he was not afraid. His father was a WWII pilot in the Pacific and got shot down. Do you honestly think his father would let him wimp out? Not on your life.

Wouldn't you have been afraid? A lot of people were afraid, and Bush isn't the only one who managed to dodge the recruiters. He was on a secret CIA mission, I thought? Well, wherever he was, yeah, he was probably scared.

Of course, that didn't stop a lot of other people...

At least he served. Clinton did not. Clinton protested the US involvement in Vietnam, President Bush did not.

Did you feel more anger at Clinton then you do for President Bush? If no, why not?

And when did you volunteer for the military service?
