Use a semi-permanant black.
i always use a semi perm if i'm dying black.
because other wise it WILL NOT. WILL NOT. wash out if you use a normal permanant dye. and you can't dye over it; you'd have to bleach it.
i will be honest, you have to have the right color face to go black.
Naturally warm people should avoid blue, violet, white and jet-black hair, which will seem to "wash out" your natural high hair color.
you have have to have black or almost black eyebrows.
and remember to condition a lot AND style, otherwise it'll look crappy and careless.
when going darker, it's not as damaging to hair so you dont have to worry about getting it done professionally. but it's super important that you dont miss any hair, so if you have really LONG or really THICK hair pick up an extra bottle of hair dye. do it in sections. ask your mom or a friend who dyes her hair for help.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. I also have dark brown curly hair. I tried dying it a sort of purply red a few times, and it was all right, but it's not good for your hair. I suppose it can be fun to change things up dying your hair, but I would never dye it black!!!
First of all, it looks funny on people who don't have black hair when your skin tone and eyebrows don't match. It makes people look sickly.
Secondly, my mom and I dyed her hair black a few months ago, and when she went back to the beauty shop to have it redyed a lighter color, it was a mess. You can't just dye over black, so they have to take it out. It took 3 1/2 hours. The stuff they extract the dye with is drying to hair. So, unless you always want to be black, and never go lighter, I wouldn't do it. Try a darker brown first.

Semi permament colours are good to use like crazy colour and directions, this type of dye is not damaging you can put it on as much as you want. It doesn't contrain any peroxid. If ur hair is allready damaged I would sugest using a conditionin treatment, such as nioxen this will repair ur hair.

Black might be a little exteme for your skin tone...if you're fair skinned then I wouldnt advise it. Otherwise there really isnt a problem with dying your hair. Keep in mind though that black IS a difficult color to use on yourself...it may be easier for you to get it done professionally.
Other than that...have fun with the new color and make sure to get your original color in dye if you do it yourself. That way you can dye it back to your natural color when the roots get bad.

Dying hair black and making it look natural is very difficult. I would suggest that since you have dark brown hair, maybe go with the darkest brown shade that you can find, I think you will be happier with the results

If you are going to die your hair, get it done by a professional. You could accidentally make a mistake, or figure you don't like the hair colour, and the stylist can tell you which colour might be best.

WHY in the CRAP would you want BLACK hair?
It leaves AWFUL roots when it starts growing out. I don't CARE what color your normal hair is.
