Generally you need to call the "booking desk" of a county jail and ask them how to do it. They can confirm if the person is in that institution in custody and give you info. on what you can and cannot send. Sometimes the State and Federal Prisons also have facilities there, so make sure you send it to the right place. If it's not properly addressed, etc. there's a good chance you'll never see it again. Make sure before you send money that it is permitted, to add to their canteen fund (if available).

I live in Etowah County, AL. All you have to do is call the prison and ask them for their address. Put his name on the envelope and then the address. He should get it that way. That is have we do it her at the Etowah County Detention Center.

most states you can do an inmate look up on their department of corrections website and that will tell you their doc ID number and where they are doing their time.
