My boyfriend had this a couple weeks ago, he felt like their were razor blades in the back of his throat when he swallowed and he had white stuff on and around his tonsils. The strep test was negative. I heard most strep tests come back negative. Is this true? Why would all the symtoms be their for strep then?

ITS NOT AN STD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, it doesnt smell.

Yep, rapid strep can have false negatives.
here are the symptoms of tonsilitis aka strep throat:
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils caused by an infection. In tonsillitis, the tonsils are enlarged, red, and often coated (either partly or entirely) by a substance that is yellow, gray, or white. Tonsillitis usually occurs as part of a pharyngitis (throat infection). Tonsilitis usually begins with sudden sore throat and painful swallowing. Other poss. is mono.
Hon, gargle with warm salt water, suck on pectin throat lozenges, and camomile tea with lemon and honey, that will relieve the symptoms for now. Call your clinic in the morning tell the doctor on call that you are in agony and about your boyfriend and the amox. giving him relief, s/he should help you out. the strep test only tests for certain variety of strep. so it is possible that you have an infection but with a different organism that the test does not pick up.
if you have fever (temp above 101 if you don't have a thermometer go and buy one they are cheap) sore throat and the white stuff on your tonsils it is likely you have a bacterial infection and antibiotics will help.
if you have a cough sore throat and no fever then you probably have a virus and antibotics like amoxicillin will not help. you will get better on your own.
also you can calm down you aren't going to die from this. even untreated a bacterial infection will only last 5-7 days before the body cures its self. the meds just shorten the course.

ok was he having trouble swallowing if he was tonsils dont think strep now about the white stuff was it just on his throat and is it still there because what you are describing to me sounds like what was in my husbands mouth and throat when we found out he has cancer try taking him to an ear,nose and throat dr.

I have had those same syptoms when I came down with a serious case of Tonsilitis. The best way to deal with it is to see a doctor yourself. Peroxide can be used as a mouth wash and it works wonders for this kind of thing. You have to follow the instructions on the back of the bottle for use as a mouthwash.

That sounds a lot like strept throat. Antibiotics are the normal course of treatment. Go to the doctor.

Strep throat...see a doctor and get medicine. I have never heard about the tests coming back neg.

strep test can come back negative sometimes...if i were you i would go to the doctor and be tested for strep, thrush, and mono...if could be any one of the three...if your boyfriend had it he probably gave it to you...so just go get tested and get on some medication to clear it all up...it sounds bacterial not viral...so it won't go away on it's own...

They could be tonsiloliths, or tonsil stones. They look like the curds in cottage cheese, and they smell like death warmed over. Lots of people get them, and they're harmless.
