Surgery is not a something to consider...for a bulging disc is just that the pulp of the disc is out of place just touching some of the nerves and making that pain radiate down your legs.
Exercise, stretches and of course chiropractic care and massage can help a great deal. Usually lumbar traction helps with it alot, but not a lot of patients like it, so you might want to have it done manually.
Massage therapy will help with any spasm that it might create and they can help with decreasing any swealing or spasm in that area.
Try to stretch before and after getting out of bed. Is essential to do so.
Hope you feel better, good luck ^i^♥

Surgery should always be your last treatment choice. I injured my lower a year ago with bulging discs shown on the MRI. Hurt really bad and couldn't sleep. Took lots of ibuprofen, did the physical therapy, exercised and took good care of my back. Slowly - very slowly, it got better. Took maybe 9-10 months. Also saw a chiropractor for months and got regular massages. Try all these options and more before opting for surgery since any back surgery is always opening a big can of worms, regardless of how often the surgeon says "it's no big deal". good luck

go see a chiropractor. I help people with this condition ALL the time. Medications will only mask the symptoms and will never cure the real problem. Surgery has a success rate of 50%. Make it your last result, even if chiro care cannot help.

Yes. I did the spinal injections - no help. 2 years of PT - minimal relief. I have been to 12 different doctors, specialist, & physiologists - all with various opinions & solutions. Finally was sent to a chiropractor who has done traction and spinal manipulation. I am pain free after 2 solid years of daily pain.
