We need not worry about the opinions , gross-misunderstandings or perceptions of non-believers, rather we are on Earth for God and must never forget this. We are not on Earth to please other humans but please God. So we should just do our daily prayers and other good deeds before time runs out and not worry about what others think of us, for on the Day of Judgment their opinions will not matter, rather only our deeds will.

Peace Be With You

and Praise be to God for your conversion to Islam

I don't know. I'm a muslim, my mom wears hijab, but I don't. I believe that muslim women can decide whether they want to wear it or not. But in reality, it's not as simply as that. I knew some friends from Syria, and Middle East countries. They told me that they were forced to wear hijab for no reason. The couldn't say no, otherwise they would be punished. And the problem is, it's written on Koran that woman sins if she shows her skin to people. See, it's a bit confusing ,right? In the other way, actually God does force women to wear hijab, even though they don't want to wear it. You said that "Islam sees women as equal to men" and "Islam doesn't allow any mistreatement of women", are you really sure about that? I mean, could you make me understand that women are equal to men in Islam, while men can do polygamy and have 4 wives? How you could you say that while we know that many women out there are nor allowed to have jobs, and they have to stay at home, raise their children? Aren't they only a seen as wives, slaves? I'm a muslim, but honestly, I don't find that Islam treats women equally to men.

Not all Muslim women are forced to wear it, but in some countries they are forced or they will be beaten by the morality police. Just because you are not, doesn't mean all women are not force to wear it, and in some countries, even non Muslim women are forced to wear the hijab. Open your eyes.

Have you ever hear of a movie " Osama". If you can watch it. It is not about Osama bin laden, it is about a woman and her only child who happens to be a girl. and then tell us how that woman was not forced to do what she did!!

Forced!!! such a vast word with multiple meanings. A person can be forced to do things in so many different ways, even without them knowing they are being forced. This can be applied to almost anything, not just the hijab, anything.

I think you should do some research before you post such a question?

Last April, a student in Kuwait was accosted by three men in the street and asked why she was not wearing hijab. When she answered that it was not their business, they reportedly beat her and broke her arm. The Kuwaiti government announced that the vigilantes would be punished, and feminists around the world expressed concern that ‘extremism’ is threatening Kuwaiti women.

In Turkey, the reverse is true, a a medical student at Istanbul University, was sentenced to six months in jail last May because she wore a head-scarf to her exams.

It is only a piece of cloth, and if it was truly freedom of choice to wear it, then I would have no problem with those who chose to do so. However, in some countries, women do not have the choice not to wear it!

In the West I have no problems with a woman in a Hijab, however, In most cases, when hijab is discussed in relation to ‘human rights’, the issue under discussion is countries or regions where women are either legally compelled to wear it, or are under strong social pressure to do so.

I will conceide that the Hijab is often portrayed as part of a ‘fundamentalist’ plot to imprison women, starting with an apparently innocuous head-scarf, progressing to black robes and face-veils, going on to severe limitations on education and employment, and ending with virtual house arrest.

Ok, so the Hijab is not an issue in the whole of the Islamic world, but the wearing of hijab is compulsory in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Zamfara State (in Nigeria), and Kelantan State (in Malaysia).

In Western society no, they are not forced. But to say all Muslim women in all societies have the same freedom you do is ignorance.

When you see 100% compliance of Muslim women in same countries wearing the Hijab, that is proof, since the only way to get 100% agreement on any subject matter is through force.

I think that people assume that Muslim women are forced to wear a hijab, because they just can't imagine why Muslim women would want to. This is because they have no real understanding of the merit of the hijab. Unfortunately, our society has lost all touch with the value of modesty, and it's like most people just can't understand it anymore. I'm not a Muslim, but I try to dress modestly. I don't wear shorts, or low-cut things or anything. Some people seem to think this is an indication I have low self-esteem. That's not it at all!

I really respect Muslim women who wear their hijabs and modest clothing, especially if they live in an area where they are a minority. It is very courageous to take this stand for modesty in a place where it is not much appreciated. Well, just to let you know, I for one, do appreciate it!

God bless!

I'm sure most Muslim women choose to wear the hijab but I'm also sure some are forced to wear it by overbearing and demanding husbands and fathers. Whatever reason a woman chooses to wear it, it should be her choice and her choice alone.

Most women forced to wear the hijab it is because of either fanatics or people very Conservative of their countries old traditions. Muslim women are NOT forced to wear the hijab and the quran states that. Muslim who force their daughters to wear the scarf are like Christians who force their daughters to become nuns. Fanatics in all religions. Simple.
