You don't know what your tomorrow will bring. Your life situation may change. There are diseases, crimes, violences out there.
In this system of things, whether we are wealthy rich or poor, happy or miserable, intelligent or dull-witted, wise or idiot, time and unforseen occurrence befall us all. We do not know our time. Just like fish that are being taken in an evil net, and like birds that are taken in a trap, calamitous time can come upon us suddenly. Example, World Trade Center, on 9/11...I'm sure there were many happy, rich and intelligent people in the buildings. Did they know that was going to happen? Look how it affected their loved ones?
Even if we are rich and happy, the longest we each may live up to in this current system of things is just a little over 100 yrs. Is that all you would settle for when you can have everlasting, happy life in paradise earth without pain and suffering (like we're going to get in our old age in this current system of things), with peace and love forever?

Even though you chose not to believe in God, that's your choice(that's call free will given by God). Also, the instructions that God gave us through his word the Bible are to benefit ourselves. It's up to each individual how to use those instructions. If one uses it the right way, one will gain happiness now and might gain everlasting life in paradise earth.
Here's one example taken out of the Bible that applies to married couple. Enjoy.
Ephesians 5:28-33 Â "In this way husbands ought to be loving their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself, 29Â for no man ever hated his own flesh; but he feeds and cherishes it, as the Christ also does the congregation, 30Â because we are members of his body. 31Â “For this reason a man will leave [his] father and [his] mother and he will stick to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” 32Â This sacred secret is great. Now I am speaking with respect to Christ and the congregation. 33Â Nevertheless, also, let each one of YOU individually so love his wife as he does himself; on the other hand, the wife should have deep respect for her husband."
Not having God in one's life is like one is jumping inside an aircraft not knowing how much gas is in the aircraft tank and/or having any destination to land and just fly around the globe for pleasure. Here read more just for fun.
Jehovah rewards his faithful servants with life, but life of what kind? Well, are you really living now? Most of us would say that the answer is obvious. After all, we breathe, we eat, and we drink. Surely we must be living. And in our happier moments, we may even say, “Now this is really living!” However, the Bible indicates that in an important sense, no human today is really living.
God’s Word urges us to “get a firm hold on the real life.” (1Â Timothy 6:19) Those words indicate that “the real life” is something we hope to attain in the future. Yes, when we are perfect, we will be alive in the fullest sense of the word, for we will be living as God originally intended us to live. When we are living on a paradise earth in complete health, peace, and happiness, we will at last enjoy “the real life”—everlasting life. (1Â Timothy 6:12) Is that not a wonderful hope?
How can we “get a firm hold on the real life”? In the same context, Paul urged Christians “to work at good” and “to be rich in fine works.” (1Â Timothy 6:18) Clearly, then, much depends on how we apply the truths we have learned from the Bible. But did Paul mean that we earn “the real life” by performing good works? No, for such marvelous prospects really depend on our receiving “undeserved kindness” from God. (Romans 5:15) However, Jehovah delights in rewarding those who serve him faithfully. He wants to see you live “the real life.” Such a happy, peaceful, everlasting life lies ahead for those who remain in God’s love.
Each of us does well to ask himself, ‘Am I worshiping God in the way he has set out in the Bible?’ If we make sure, day by day, that the answer is yes, then we are on the right path. We can be confident that Jehovah is our refuge. He will keep his faithful people safe through the last troubled days of this old system of things. Jehovah will also deliver us into the glorious new system of things now near. How thrilled we will be to see that time! And how delighted we will be that we made the right choices during these last days! If you make such choices now, you will enjoy “the real life,” life as Jehovah God meant it to be, throughout all eternity!

Christianity doesn't say that only Christians will find happiness in this life. It says only Christians will find happiness in eternity. Eternity is a lot longer than this life.

and just how much of that money can you take with you when you die? There are no uhauls behind hearses.
You should be thinking about where you'll be spending eternity ,not just earthly happiness.

I am quite well off too, I have a lovely wife, kid, nice house, lots of friends, no real problems. And I have absolutely no need for a god or gods in my life.

That assumes that people that god likes get more. You have a lot because you worked hard and were lucky and have traits that your wife likes. You don't have to believe in a fabrication to get what you've got.
