I am an ex Power lifter and I would say for the Average person YES you are strong for your weight.
I myself now training and remember this was for power lifting I have benched 385 at a body weight of 179 lbs and I have benched 430 at a body weight of 239.5 lbs and I have benched with a weight lifting shirt 500 lbs at a body weight of 253 lbs.
I am 5'7"

You have benched 82 lbs over your body weight = Great
Now what you need to work on to be in the compititions would be at a starting of 296lbs and use a power lifting shirt. If you want some good tips contact me via email at SLimb20413@yahoo.com

My step father has benched in competition 585 @ at a body weight of 217lbs and my friend Ryan has benched 780lbs at a body weight of 335.

That's excellent for your bodyweight, for sure. Anything over 1.5% of your bodyweight on bench is good. 2% is powerlifting competitive. Keep up the good work!
