I fell about 5 weeks ago and landed right on my back. Recently , I have begun to experience severe back pain, and went to my chiropractor yesterday. She said that it was very inflammed and gave me some treatment. After, I felt even worse, to the point where I can barely even walk. I went to the emerg today , desperate to get a stonger pain killer/anti-inflammatory ( ibuprofen wasn't working ) and the DR said the chiropractor could have made the inflammation worse . Does anyone know if this could be true? I have gone to that chiropractor for years and trust them, but now I'm wondering....

Thanks !

Thanks Jo and Pequen ! Maybe it will get better in time. I am supposed to go again in a week. Pequen, you mentioned a muscle relaxant ... my chiro said not to use one because I have inflammation , but the pharmacist suggested I do use one. I seem to be getting spasms and think they might help. Anyone have experience with inflammation & muscle relaxants? Thanks again....!

Hi McDannell - Yes , I just used OTC ibuprofen . It was regular strength ( 200 mg ) and I took 3-4 at a time. I live in Canada .. not sure if they prescribe ibuprofen here?? The Dr prescribed Naproxin ( I think that's what it's called... lol )

I have RA. When I first started getting arthritis before these chiropractors were even recognized as a alternative medicine I was told never to go to one. My arthritis doctor (s) said they do nothing for inflammation, which is what arthritis is.
So from what I have been told I would listen to the doctor. These chiropractor people might be good for some things I would not know but for inflammation do not go to them..

Ibuprofen - did you buy it over the counter in little doses or did you get some real stuff from the doctors? Back pain is supposed to be the number one pain people have in our state.

Did the pain start from the Chiropractor. If it did, then the Chiropractor has injured it. See another one. You don't say if she hurt her neck, was in an accident or what. The pain surely did not start for no reason at all. Ice packs to the back of the neck, twenty minutes on, twenty minutes off, or moist heat may help. The neck collar will probably make it worse, especially a hard one. My wife uses a real soft one from Wal-Mart that has batteries in it making it vibrate. It's really soft and the outer material is real silky and you can practically squeeze it together. But she probably has a spur. Did the Chiropractor take and xray, he should have. Massage her neck with your hands and apply some aspercreme. I had a pain similar to your wife's, and I had my Son place his hands, one under the chin and one at the back of the head, and lift up to stretch the spine, turning my head slowly to the left and then to the right. Helped me. Good luck.

It could be that you inflamation is bad and it will require several treatments to the chiropractor. I have been in a situation though where I needed an adjustment and I felt good after it. I went back for a second one and I felt bad again. You may need muscle relaxant.

The first time I went to the Chiropractor, it hurt way worse afterwords. Use ice & whatever the ER gave you.
I think the chiropractor is still trustable as you haven't had problems before.
