Can Hindus be considered "people of the book"? Because we too have religious writings. And we believe in one God, although we believe he has many forms (this is at least as monotheistic as Christianity).
If not, what is the status of Hindus?
Just curious.
Thanks.

Please no Islam bashing.

Leviathan - a person's question about the status of Hindus in Islamic theology is NOT the appropriate place to bash Muslims. You endanger the integrity of Yahoo Answers by replying that way, without even attempting to answer my question.

As a Muslim I have no problems in seeing God's revelations interwoven in the Hindu holy texts, and I believe that God did not discriminate among communities that together form our humanity. Through Mohammad (pbuh) we see the revelations from God in their most pure and integrated form thus providing a finality (is there such a word?!) for the Quran. There have been many messengers from God contributing to Islam with Mohammad (pbuh) being the last one. I think it is our arrogance and "partisan" claims to Truth that fragments us into adversarial foes of one another. A Hindu is my brother and sister.

well in the quran only christians jews and sabians(Monotheist people of preislamic time) are people of the book sinse they believe in one god and the last day.

muslims think that a prophet probably was sent to the hindu people. but then again god didn't tell us about all his prophets.(ONLY TOLD OF 26 of them).

but hindus are not people of the book.

No, I am sorry I am not aware of anything which supports this view. The People of the Book are Jews and Christians. Hindus pray to idols you have to not do this. If you are referring to Bhaghwan, as God, he knows best. But all for the different forms, god of knowledge, god of love this is forbidden.

Peace Be With You

In the Holy Quran (is also called BOOK), the people of Quran or Book is mentioned to Jews, Christian and Muslim.

O People of the Book (Jews and Christians)! Now has come to you Our (Final) Messenger (Muhammad) explaining to you much of what you used to hide from the Scripture and pass over. Indeed, there has come to you from Allah a light and a Clear Book (this The Holy Quran). (The Holy Quran, Chapter 5, Verse 15)

in a word no.
Hindu's cannot be considered as people of the book as i believe you worship monkeys and other idols / dietys other than God.

The Islamis status of Hindus is that the are polytheists

i hope that has been of some help.

No Islam bashing?

Why? Is Mohammed getting weak in the knees? Glass jaw starting to tell? Hmm?

Humanity will have come of age when we give God a 10 count.
