Exactly. And first of all someone said nuns don't cover their faces. Not all muslim women do, that is just done by choice, it is not something we have to do. Someone also said that nuns do it by choice, muslim women are forced. ARE YOU STUPID? Where would you get that idea??? IDIOT! You are obviously misguided and ignorant.

Yes I think muslim women get criticised because they are muslim, yet people act like it is the hijab that makes them oppressive. I really don't understand what is oppressive about it. The hijab is alike a crown to muslim women. To call it oppressive and then say it is fine that a nun wear it is really stupid. And also the fact that muslim women are associated with terrorism, WHY? Why stereotype like that?

Woo sorry about the long answer lol. It just gets on my nerved when people think like this, and they think that muslim women are forced to wear a hijab. OPEN YOUR EYES!

Excellent point and well made. Only a small minority of women wear the full veil, many cover their hair as nuns do. Perhaps we should ask our nuns to derobe.

If anyone thinks that Catholicism has not been tainted by extremism and violence they should open a history book - The Spanish Inquisition? Slavery? The Crusades? The failure to criticise Hitler?

I suspect if Catholicism was seen as a non-white religion (although the majority of its followers are now based in Africa and South America) then we'd be baying for their blood as well.

Think we should leave Muslim women alone, I am yet to be harrassed, hurt or abused by a Muslim woman in a veil.

I think people who were born in the fifties, sixties and seventies have never seen women wearing the Hijab before as Christianity has been the dominant belief/religion here in The UK for centuries. It appears alien to some of us.
During the last fifty years Asian Muslims have come to live here and bring up their families peacefully. Then(on another tack) all of a sudden we have Islamic extremists amonst us letting off bombs and a growing Asian/Muslim population too. We have many illegal immigrants arriving and making the white population uncomfortable at being swamped. Then there is the realisation that at present birth rates people of Christian heritage will be outnumbered by Muslims. Eventually perhaps an Islamic majority in power telling us that we must live by their customs. Sharia law. Intolerable. We have good laws here but poor sentencing. So when people see the Hijab, could it be that it reminds them of places like Pakistan,Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq where Christians are not always tolerated and have no safety? They are even sometimes put to death for speaking of Christ. I am sure the majority of Muslims here are peaceloving and can live peacefully alongside Christians but we see outspoken militant Islamic extremists in every other Muslim majority country stirring up hatred towards us-and here too. This creates fear that perhaps here in England, and the whole of the UK, an organisation with extremist hidden agendas will gain ever more support.

Loved youre question and as ever there are some really Dumb answers . I couldnt agree with you more at the end of the day Hijab's are very similar to what Nuns plonk on their heads and noone ever says anything about it . Unfortunatly because a handful of so called Muslims did a few bad things Idiot people tar all muslims with the same "terrorist " brush . Even if they are I dont think taking of a head wrap will save youre Ar*se . X

First, the difference is that only Nuns of the Catholic church wear the habits and head covering, as part of their religious commitment, not all women of the country. Nuns are married to the church, Muslim women are not.

Second, most people don't understand that Muslim women wear the Hijab by choice, not because they are forced. They don't understand the reasoning behind the Hijab .... they are precious jewels that choose to cover up for the common man on the street, and only uncover for their husbands.

A little because they're Muslim. Also because nuns remove themselves from the world, so people don't think of them so much. The truth is however, that the same people who criticie the hijab also criticize habits and cloistering of nuns, and the way Orthodox Jewish women dress.

These people just don't like the idea of religion telling people to do things. Anything. They are offended by the concept of G_d caring about how people live.

It's also because they feel that for a woman to cover up to honor G-d and keep herself for her husband is degrading, but for her to dress extremely revealing is empowering for her because it allows her to use her body to manipulate men.

Their thoughts don't necessarily make sense if you think about them for very long.
