I am not sure you downloaded the actual free version if it has expired. There are two version of AVG. One is AVG Professional Edition which has a limited trial, the other is an actual Free Edition which doesn't include all the features of the Professional Edition but has unlimited free updates. Yes, no problem. I had the same issue you did. Just go to free.grisoft.com and download version 7.5 before 7.1 expires. When you run the installer, se the "repair installation" option. This will override the old files with the new ones. Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer, follow the setup instructions, and check for updates like you normally do.
