You might not be curling it well enough. Did you hold it in long enough? If your iron's pretty hot, then wrap your hair around it tightly and hold for about 45 seconds, then let go and finger through the part you just curled.
If you do that part alright, then just use hairspray. Just remember not to spray it too closely to your hair! :)
If you curl your hair the night before you need it, then be sure to keep it in a ponytail while you sleep.

I've been a hairdresser for many years and the number one reason curls done at home are weak is lack of a good curling iron that gets hot. We all have a tendency to buy an iron and use it too long. As an iron gets older it will still heat but not as much. So we think we are curling and curling and we hold and hold it on the hair longer and longer and don't even realize we are doing it. Girls, replace your irons if you find yourself doing this and buy good hot iron. It might cost a bit more but definitely worth it. I also recommend a good gel, like Redken Contour Shaping Lotion before you dry your hair and if it is fine or doesn't hold curls well, follow up with a product like Redken Hotsets before you use your iron. If you are not going to style your hair right after curling, place a clip in each curl and leave them until you are ready to style. Hopefully, the combination of a good iron, good products, and good handling of your curls will all contribute to great curls that hold.

Do you gel or hairspray it before curling? This tends to work.
Hot curling iron curls usually won't hold all day. Try sleeping with old-fashioned foam curlers (which can be uncomfortable at first) for a hold which will last longer. Or, if you can't sleep with curlers, leave them in all day the day before you need curls (try tying a scarf over your head or wearing a hat if you need to leave the house), remove the curlers before you go to sleep, and try not to toss during the night (so you don't crush the curls too much) or put it up (as in a ponytail).

First make sure the curling iron is hot enought, then curl your hair. Next, spray hairspray and the with the blowdryer set on cool and low, point it at curl until dry. I know alot of work but that's what works for me.

Use a strong holding mouse. Put in on your wet hair, then blow dry then curl! u can then use a flexible hair spray after u curl your hair, to really hold it extra long. i have long straight hair, and the mouse works perfect for me, all day

The best thing to do is to use a product called Curls Up from FX Special Effects. You can get it at any Walgreens, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc. You'll love it!
