I love the Labrador Retrievers. I have owned tons of different breeds and although I loved the dogs I never fell in love with a breed until I met and got my first Lab. They are the smartest, most loving, loyal, dedicated, easily trainable, affectionate and versatile breed. They are friendly enough to take anywhere you go, their favorite thing is being with you and you can train them to do anything. It is easy to see why they are the number one breed for family and in service work. I can not say enough good things about them. They are great with kids and with other dogs. I take mine swimming in the summer, camping, hiking, hunting, to parties and events, In the winter he goes sledding and snowmobiling with us. Theya are the greatest dogs.

My suggestion would be to go to your local shelter and look for a dog there. There are millions of animals every year that are rejected by families, most of the time, there is nothing wrong with these dogs. Many of them do not find homes in a timely manner resulting in euthanasia after a specific amount of time depending on the size and available funding of your local shelter. If you decide on a specific breed, you can also search online for a rescue organization for that breed.
I would also suggest doing some research on whatever breed you decide to look at. All breeds have good and bad points, you need to see what breed works the best for you. For example, I have a Jack Russel Terrier which are featured in several movies, TV shows, and commercials. The most famous one was Eddie on the show Frasier. Though they are very smart, sweet, loving, and charming dogs, they are extremely high energy dogs that constantly need attention. Because of their high intelligence, they can easily get into trouble and often do. I love my dog very much, but I have a GOOD sense of humor and I am very tolerant of his behavior. Many people are not that way and thousands of Jack Russells are found in shelters every year. I hope that helps. I don't want to tell you what to get because, again, it depends on what you want out of your new dog and what you have to give to your new dog.

I always feel that a pounded pet is the best to get, however if you are going to buy outright I would suggest one of these breeds.

If you have a fairly large yard
Lab
Golden Retriever
German Shepherd
Also mixed breed dogs are very good as well.

A small Yard
Terrier
Beagle
Collie
Or a mixed breed

It all comes down to what you really want in a dog, and how much time you have to spend with it. You could also probaly google to get more info, on other breeds as well. If your still not quite sure, you can always consult a vet. I wish you the best of luck in finding the right dog . let us know what you get :)

Go to YAHOO! and type in "dog breed selector" Several questionnaires will come up. They will ask you about your lifestyle and preferences. This should give you a good idea about the breed good for you. Once you get it narrowed down, go to akc.com and look at the breed standard. then you may want to volunteer at a shelter or rescue so you can meet the dogs in person and see if you connect. Another resource might be to go to a dog show. Whatever you do, don't go to a pet shop or a backyard breeder

Finding a dog that is best for you should depend on several factors such as yard size, children in the household, grooming needs, level of activeness. I suggest using a dog breed selector to help you decide. (see URL below) Then go a website dedicated to that specific breed to find out more information to firm up your decision.

If you decide to adopt a mixed breed from the pound, make sure you know what you are looking for in a pet and let the keepers help you pick out a great companion for you.

It depends on what dog you would like. Do you care about appereance or no? Do you want to groom the dog everyday? Do you want to walk the dog every day? What size dog? what color? Type it in on google or some other search engine and you can answer questions to get your answer.

If u want an inside dog then get a smaller one like a Toy Poodle in case you have a cat or decide to get one smaller dogs are the perfect companion for cats or other smaller dogs.

If you want an outside dog then get a Lab, Boxer, Retriever, etc. they are very good hunting dogs and they love water.

Get a dog from a pound that needs a home.

Mutts make the best pets anyway.

Try a terrier, or a lab mix if you have room for a bigger dog.

well it depends on what you have (family wise) and what you characteristics are. Go to a local animal shelter and look through the dogs..find a dog that is cute and fits your life style...remember it doesn't matter what kind of dog you get..it depends on what the dog acts like...your choice.......if you're looking for a suggestion though I would go with a english springer spaniel...they are...............

.Medium size dogs
.playful
.caring
.out doorsy
.likes to run
.trainied easily
.loving
.great with kids

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!:)

i have a mixed breed right now. from my own experience i can say that my mixed dogs always seem to have LESS health problem than my pure breeds. i don't know why. all of my mixed dogs have had german shepperd in them. german shepperds are very obedient, loyal, and family and pet friendly. i suggest checking out the SPCA. the breed of dog depends on what you need and want in a dog. good luck
