I know a story where a 7 year old boy in a public restroom in a park was allowed to go in by himself, his mother waited nearby...

After about 10-15 minutes, she went to check on him and he was raped, beaten and stabbed to death.

The killer escaped through a window in the back by that time.

Why do people think it's safe to let a little boy into a public restroom alone?

Do they not know what a men's room is like in many circumstances?

What is wrong with these people?

Allyah: I can not believe people are still this frivilous with their kids' lives.
It's no wonder that kids get kidnapped and killed,
their parents seem to throw caution to the wind. FINE! do it with your own life. but throwing caution to the wind is NOT how to raise a kid. I'm not saying hold his hand, I'm saying 4!!! years old is WAY too young, you have to be right there watching and listening, if you are not in the very same room.
we are talking about children's lives here.

would you WANT to take the chance that they can be molested, raped, murdered?

Could you live with that, when you knew you could have taken precautions?

Don't be so naive. That boy AND his mother would have NEVER been harmed if she would have just made him go in the woman's room. I doubt any woman was in there anyway.

It is NAIVE to the core to think that men's rooms are OK dandy places for ANY child to be.....you have obviously never been in one or know what often goes on in them.

cntoa: THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWER.....
SERIOUSLY, DO YOU SEE NOW HOW PEOPLE'S KIDS GET MURDERED AND MOLESTED, ???
IT'S INFURIATING HOW PEOPLE THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND WITH LITTLE BOY'S LIVES.
AMAZING. SIMPLY AMAZING.
BUT DOES THE CHILD DESERVE THE PUNISHMENT FOR THE PARENT'S DISREGARD AND THOUGHTLESSNESS?

I haven't even considered what age my son will start using male public toilets on his own. I suppose it would have to depend on were we were.

I certainly wouldn't allow him to use one in a park at any age were I would be accompanying him. I feel so much for this Mother I cannot even imagine the horrific guilt and grief she must feel.

I don't have a little boy but when my nephew would come to stay with me and we would go out I took him to the ladies room until he was about 8 years old with me then when he had to go I would knock on the mens restroom have him go in and check then come to the door and tell me he was alone if he didn't come straight back I would enter myself I wouldn't take any chances with him he still laughs about my way of taking care of him and he is now 16

I have a family member who has just retired after a 30 year law enforcement career. He has seen many incidents of children molested in bathrooms. I, too saw the answers that others left. I didn't bother to respond because people don't want to hear the truth. They want to live in the delusion that we are still in 1950 where its safe to let Dick and Jane and Spot go to the public restroom alone. If you tell them different they think you are overreacting and ridiculous.

I feel that it is jumping to conclusions when assuming that this type of question is asked that parnents are throwing caution to the wind. Some children are embarassed at a young age and referring to outside sources to see if you are being overprotective is okay. I feel the concern lies in the parents that allow their children to go in without asking for advice. Do not be so quick to jump to conclusions.

Yea that is horrid. But man you're on a real soap box tonight. Anything else got your goat that you haven't told us about yet?

I don't think anyone was trying to be neglectful , but we all know at some point you have to give them a little room to grow. You will notice most of the people that answered that question said 8 and older. I agree, don't buy trouble, unfortunately, trouble comes in many packages.

Would you have also have liked her to go into the stall with him and hold his hand. You are overprotective you cant worry your whole life that there is gonna be someone around the corner with a gun or a knife things like that just happen sometimes and thats just the way life is. Do you think things would have turned out differently had she had gone in with him he probably would have killed her too. I know i am gonna get burned with a lot of thumbs down but oh well thats just another part of life.

where I live the mens room is not dangerous. Like many other crimes this is the result of too many people living in one place.

Again, I agree with you.

People live under this false notion that nothing bad will ever happen to them or those kinds of things only happen on tv.
