Don't get me wrong, I think all dogs are cute. Even those that are so ugly that they are adorable! But, why would anyone intentionally breed these mutts?

Not only is it out of control but there are some breeds that should never be crossed, doing so is causing some serious issues with health and structure.

Not all designer puppies are from mills but they are all from irresponsible breeders...responsible and delibrately breeding mixes doesn't go together.

These peopel are charging outrageous prices for puppies whose traits and looks are up for grabs....in a litter you will likely have puppies who all look different..some will take more from one breed or the other, some will be a mixture of both...in the "poo" mixes some will be light shedders like the Poodle others will be heavy shedders like the other breed and still others will be in between..some will have coats like a Poodle some like the other breed and some will have (sorry) an ugly mix of the two.
The biggest issue is the lies the breeders tell unsuspecting people in order to lure them into a purchase.

People believe that these designer dogs are going to help people with allergies. I don't believe it, as long as you have allergies there's always going to be something attacking you. I have skin allergies and I had a mix breed poodle (I got her as a stray wondering and took her in a few years back), as soon as her hair got about 2-3 inches long I started scratching like crazy and my skin broke out, therefore I had to get her groomed.

If these designer dogs are as people say they are "hypo-allergenic" then why did my poodle mix aggrevate my skin (even with keeping her well groomed and clean on the weekly basis)? They aren't, they don't cancell out anything, they don't prevent aything, and they don't really help much to my knowledge.

Don't get me wrong they're cute, I saw a shih-poo today @ Petsmart, as well as another poodle mix but why would someone pay as much as $800 or higher for a dog that has no papers, not registerable, no know information about the "new breed," basically a mutt. I'm more bothered by the price than anything else. If you have to charge a price for a "designer dog" that you breed just charge the cost that's reasonable such as how much it cost for the actual puppy itself.

If you want a dog that bad you can simply adopt a puppy or dog from a shelter/rescue (that's spayed/netuered, all up to date on shots, and whose willing to love you) that doesn't have papers and not registerable like I did and take the extra money and put it towards things such as toys, training courses, vet bills, etc.

Some people are actually willing to pay that much for a hybrid for the belief of hypo-allergenic. Something I fail to see based on personal experience. Or perhaps the dog is just that cute; whatever floats their boat. I know personally I'm happy with my rescue puppy that cost 1/4 as much with a loving happy home.

bottom line, it is the almighty dollar. When I was a kid, "mutts" were sold for a minimal price, to cover the vet expenses, first shots, etc..... Now, let's call it a morkie, or a yorkieshon, or a maltipoo, and you have a class act. Please, these are mutts, and anyone that sells these creatures for a profit is a pure pirate. Don't get me wrong, but if I am going to pay $400 plus for a dog, it better be purebred, with akc papers. Sometimes, papers aren't worth the ink they are printed with, but a reputable breeder will guarantee the dog, these designer breeders, I am sure conveniently disappear. Sometimes accidents happen, but breeders of the designer dog are doing this intentionally. Simply put these people are pirates, and the poor dog is the one to suffer. Unfortunately, our shelters are overrun with puppies and dogs that were mistakes, and for a nomimal fee they can be adopted. At least at shelters prospective dog owners-to-be aren't raped. Sorry for my rant. But that is a tough subject to bring up, but a very good issue that you may get lots of feedback from. Thumbs up!!

Exactly!
Why are mutts so expensive!?
Breeders have gone around the bend for the MONEY.
They breed what the market demands.
If it has a cute "breed" name like Snoodle, they can demand the price.
Which is actually typical, considering the AKC gives papers to just about anyone with a dog they can claim is pure bred. I knew a woman who had AKC papers on her puppy farmed St. Bernard's. They may have been pure bred but they were nasty, mangy looking animals.
My nephew's "specially bred" goldiedoddle cost $400 !!

We used to find good looking, wonderful mutts in the paper for FREE.

I am frustrated at over breeding in general. These so called designer dogs are just mutts by cutsie names. People claim to 'love' dogs/cats but then they insist on producing more and more just to die in shelters and homeless on the streets because of pet overpopulation. Sheesh! Why can't people understand the more that's bred...the more will die in shelters and on the streets.

Get a life. Designer dogs are here to stay. Not all designer dogs are from puppy mills. I have a wonderful Bichonpoo from a reputable breeder. Yes, it is a reputable breeder I had him checked out and I checked his references. My dog is healthy, happy and well-adjusted - repeat not a puppy mill puppy. She was in a crib with her brothers when I got her. I have copies of the papers for her mom a purebred Bichon Frise and her father a purebred Toy Poodle. I made a decision to purchase a designer dog because of the lower cost (far less than a purebred) while still being non-shedding and hypoallergenic. I also needed a small dog and the shelters did not have any small breed puppies. I don't regret my decision for one minute. What makes me angry is all the self-righteous people who think it is okay to dis me and my dog without knowing the whole story. I have a very cute, very smart, sweetheart of a dog and the fact that she is the product of two purebred dogs only makes her more special. Designer dog owners of the world unite.

I absolutely 100% agree with you!! Why pay $1000 for a what is basically a mutt when you can get one for just about free at your local shelter. And not only that it is just adding to the already overpopulated amount of dogs. And celebrity's are endorsing them which makes it even worse, people see Dakota Fanning with a "Shnoodle" and they just want one too!! Makes me mad maybe you can't tell lol

I KNOW!!!! its a SCAM that IRRESPONSIBLE, STUPID, UNCARING people do only to make money giving NO thought to the pet overpopulation problem, health, temperment, or making sure they go to the RIGHT home

What the UNEDUCATED people who actualy BUY these dogs (thus furthering the nonsence and giving them even MORE reason to breed) dont understand is that there are EXACTLY the SAME MIXES that happened *ACCIDENTALY* in the pound that will DIE if they are not given a good home

This issue has bothered me for the longest. I can't even sleep at night thinking about it. i bought a dog that was half greyhound , half chihuahua, Its a good dog but it runs so fast around the house i never see it. something should be done about these "designer" dogs. maybe they can put the breeders in jail and let the inmates whip them.

I want to know why anyone would pay a high dollar amount for these mutts?
I can understand why people are breeding but the prices are absolutely ridicules!
No one in their right mind would pay over $1,000.00 for a x between a german shepherd and a beagle and they are just as adorable as these so called designer breeds.
People are just ignorant.
