I don't thiink she hates the cat either, it's just that it was only one day or so a week that she and the cat got in to, but 2 days in a row is worrying me. when It happens what should I do to hopefully help maggie learn that that is a no-no

As it began when she was in the ultra protective mode, after having puppies, the answer may be to have her spayed, so the hormones will lessen..

I agree with Chetco's answer...most likely since you kept one pup, she is still in protective mode. She perceives the cat as a threat for some reason. If you are not going to breed her again, I would spay her and hopefully her hormones calm down.

My friends dog became very protective (agressive) when she had pups and even started to attack the daddy and people that got close....they kept 2 of the puppies. The momma finally calmed down (it was sooner than you are experiencing) but when the puppies grew older they all started to become a bit agreesive with each other. I guess it was a territory thing...I am not trying to scare you or anything..people keep spawn all the time and have happy family generations living peacefully...I am just trying to give an example of how having babies can stir things up....

I don't think your jack really hates the cat other than she trying to protect her pup still....I hope you find your answer and solution..I know it must be frustrating and scary right now in your household...good luck!!!

The cat probably interfered somehow with one of her pups so now shes mad. Personally I'd get rid of the dog but I hate jack russells they are annoying in my opinion. Anyways talk to a vet and see if there is something you can do to alleviate the problem. otherwise keep them seperated. Oh and get your dog fixed that might solve the problem too, alot of dogs calm down after being fixed!

the straightforward answer is she isn't! neither is the cat attempting to mate with the canines! It basically would not happen. both species basically mate with their own type and easily at the same time as the female is in warmth and do not do it for exhilaration! they basically obey the instincts that are caused through the pheromones released! Your canines is making an attempt to demonstrate her dominance over it. I say attempting because no self respecting cat is going to enable a canines 'dominate'. that's not in a Cat's standard behaviour basically because they don't seem to be a %. animal!

I don't know perhaps she is being protective over the pups squirt her in the face if she tries going after the cat and say NO! or take her to command training poor cat I know how you feel I'm trying to get my dog used to the new cat slowly it's working good luck.
