What is left is a small portion of what was there during the Cold War. Many, if not most, US bases in Germany have been turned back over to the Germans. For example, Rhein Main Air Base, the base that was the center for the Berlin Airlift, the base that served as the gateway for soldiers going to Germany, has been turned back over to Germany.

The force we have left is there for political and strategic reasons.

The U.S. has armed forces stationed throughout Western Europe, mainly Germany, for various reasons.

Partly they are remnants of the Cold War, but they are also meant to enhance the country's ability to oblige to NATO requirements.

Well, last time we left Europe Germany started another world war. Thus after world war II we decided it would be best if we stayed.

As for japan, we didn't want to take any chances.

Are you talking about the soldiers in Iraq? If so,

They should have never put them in Europe in the first place, but now its too late. They're is much more people dying then when Suddam Hussein was in control. And a lot of soldiers have died for our country too. But I think if we took the soldiers away even more people would die in Iraq.

It's a hold-over from the Cold War. Time to "redeploy," at least to our ex-Soviet European allies. France and Germany don't deserve the money that the bases provide for their socialist economies.

Furthermore, you'd be hard pressed to find Americans who would be willing to lift a finger to bail out France again.

Who knows? I'd have moved those troops years ago. They're needed else where. A token force to maintain the bases is really all that's needed. I don't see much of a chance of attack from German insurgents.

It is just Foreign Aid.
Those countries expect us to take care of them.
Sounds like Democrats expecting the tax payers to take care of them, eh?

Because Germany is still not allowed to have a proper military. Germany should be allowed to rise again.
