My amazon of many years(Merlin), does the same thing on my shoulder, my lap, or leg, when I'm taking a nap or something, and at his food dishon his perch, when he is eating. I can't really tell you why, but I can say that it is nothing to worry about!!! He usually does it(like now for instance), when I'm sitting here at my computer, or on my thigh, if I'm watching TV. I think it is a result of him watching me sit down, and he is doing the same thing. All hand-raised parrots not only adapt their humans lifestyle, but also our abilities!!! I think he does it because I'm sitting down, and he does EVERYTHING I do. If he gets to nap with me, he will lay upside down on my chest, and lay his head on my neck, say NIGHT-NIGHT, close his eyes, and go to sleep. When I yawn, he yawns. when I sneeze he sneezes, same with coughing, talking etc. The longer you have him, and the more he sits on your shoulder and watches you, the more human he will become!!! Merlin has been perfectly potty-trained for years, but if he gets mad at me, he will deliberately poop on me, then give me a So There look, which changes to a little smirk, and change to my other shoulder. I don't know how he learned THAT!!! I never know what he is going to say or do next--he almost acts HUMAN---Birdman

Picking is called preening ,it's kinda like grooming. When he squats he is resting ,content, and happy. He is also protected and he knows it.Be sure to talk to others that own birds because the major cause of death is malnutrition and the pet stores don,t often tell people. They can eat most anything you can eat. Some people let them eat right out of their plate. You can not just feed seed or he will die.Get subscription to bird Magazine and it has great tip in it.

I believe the bird is exhibiting a stance of dominance and settling in. Too bad we can't ask the bird. Have a great year.

Its called "Domnius Corpues." In Latin it means that the bird is getting ready to fly away from home. So get prepared, because the bird is planning an escape to fly from your home and for its life.
