We had been dating for 3 1/2 years and we always went on vacations together. So it wasn't a surprise to me when we planned a vacation to Cancun, Mexico. The first night we got there we went for a walk on the beach behind our hotel. We were standing there and he got me to look in the horizon saying he saw something ( I can't remember-a ship or something) but as I was looking out, I was talking and all of sudden he got quiet. A part of me didn't want to turn around because although I had a "feeling" I didn't want to be disappointed. So anyways, I turned around and he was on his knee, I burst into tears. I was crying to hysterically I can't even remember what he said to this day. I am sure if was wonderful, my honey has always had a way with words. We have been married now for 2 1/2 years and its been magnificent!
If you are considering proposing, I don't really think it matters where or how, just as long as you pic the right words!!!!!
Good luck!

I am a huge baseball fan so my husband took me to Cooperstown, home of the baseball hall of fame. After a night of dinner and cocktails we went to Doubleday Field and he proposed to me in the stands. I was totally surpised and we spent the next hour calling all our family and friends. We had been together for 5 years and were engaged for 1 and now have been happily married for 1 1/2 years. (We were married on the beach in Jamaica.) Great question, I'm curious to see other answers.

My fiance took me to an awesome restaurant on Park Ave (NYC) on New Year's Eve. We had a great dinner and then went back to our apartment and he runs to the door and locked me out. I was so irritated! He opens the door after about 2 minutes and there are candles everywhere and 2 dozen long stem red roses. He was telling me how much he loved me and what a great girlfriend, but the only problem was that he didn't want a girlfriend anymore, he wanted a wife. The he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring.....That's when the waterworks started! It was a great evening!

His mom's birthday was 3 days before Christmas, so she threw herself a party on the 23rd. My whole family was invited, as we have all met and partied before. She organized a tacky gift exchange, so everyone brought something.
He wrapped his present (2 coffee mugs) and topped it with a giant red bow (the kind that go on your house). Turns out he had snuck the ring into his gift, and everyone but me knew about it. The giant red bow was the signal NOT to open that present, and everyone was instructed to steal my gifts. Finally, his present was the only one left, and since I had just been stolen from, I had to open it. I complained to the whole room "I don't want it! I already know what's in it!" Who knew how wrong I was....as soon as I opened the box, he got down on one knee in front of both of our entire families, and asked me to be his wife. I cried, said yes, and then his parents brought out a cake! The entire birthday party was a setup! I was so surprised!

One Saturday morning, my SO called to ask if I was up, then came over and we just talked for a little bit. Then he said he had a present for me. It was a little book of love poems. He told me to turn to the bookmarked page, and there was the ring peeking out of a hole he had carved into the top of the pages! It was the sweetest thing! So he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and of course I said yes! We then went out to lunch to celebrate, followed by a wine tasting, then dinner with his parents. It was a wonderful day. : ) We have been happily married for a year and a half. : )

In a Swiss chalet near St. Moritz over Christmas with a romantic Christmas tree and a meter of snow outside sipping cognac by the fire after a day of being outside (I don't ski). Marvelous.

It was midnight and my live in boyfriend and I decided we wanted brownies. We were watching "Meet the fockers" And in our debate over who would go and get the brownies he declared he would love me forever if I went and got some. I really wanted some too so I drove out got some brownie mix and returned home. While I was cooking the brownies he came in to the kitchen and asked if this ment I would marry him. We went out and picked out rings the next day.
