People say that the truth is best, but I think that if you can make a person feel better by telling a white lie (if you feel anything for them of course) then do it. Make him feel like you have decided to take your life in another direction. The old 'It's not you, it's me' scenario....You have been thinking for a while, and although you really like him, you are not in the right place, and need to be a free person. If he argues against it,you must then tell him that although you enjoy his company and like him a lot, you see no long term future in your relationship and therefore must set him free to meet his real soul mate.....seriously....this is all far too sickly for me....but if it helps him......great

1)You can dump her/ him with no explanation;
But it's the worst, since there's no closure for that person. And they keep wondering what they did wrong and hoping that you'll come back.
What's more, you may feel guilty.
2)You can ask for a temporary break, precising that you're not sure of your feelings anymore and want to rethink the relationship;
Gives them a taste of what's going to come next;
Beside, you don't have to make contackt again as it's as good as.
3)Or you can be direct which despite the hurt, is the best.
The person can pretend all they want, but at some point they'll have to replay the message and let it sink in.
Sorry, my feelings for you have changed. I wanted to make sure before telling you, but now I know for sure.
I do like you, but don't love you anymore.
It'd be better if we don't keep in touch.
Then don't keep in touch because you want to help or anything, it only makes things worse.
Good luck.

Why not put it that bluntly?? If you're gonna sugar coat it, he's gonna get the idea that you really aren't serious about dumping him. He'll be hanging around and stalking you because you gave him mixed messages, and he thinks he's still got a chance. Tell him to get away from you...you don't want to see him any more

Unfortunately there is no way to break up with someone without feelings getting hurt.They will eventually get over it.The best thing for you to do is be honest,the worst thing is to lead someone on.Who knows,the person might feel the same way as you do.Good luck!

Yes - best to be direct - if you're lying its rarely believable and just makes the other person think there's another reason. If you're honest then you'll earn some respect for that. You'll prefer that kind of respect in the long run I assure you.

As heartless as this sounds. Dont try to spare their feelings. Dont be outright rude but sparing feelings usually leads to lying "its not you its me" and so forth. Just tell them "I no longer have feelings for you and I think we should call this whole relationship off" Its honest and to the point. Dont say "But we'll still be firends" that just leads to false hope. Its best to cut ties all together.

You aren't doing him any favors by pretending to feel more than you do, that will only make him think there's still a chance. It would be way easier to let go of you should you be blunt and honest. It will tiff him off and he will just be like, "okay."
