How do you change the water pump in a buick regal 97?

Question

My dad said he doesnt know how to open the power stareing pully, becuase its infront of the water pump. Any one know how? thanks

it has a 3.8 engine

I've found that chilton and haynes books are generally too vauge to do much good, however they are still nice to have handy. I prefer factory service manuals that can be found online for fairly cheap.

As for the PS pulley, there should be a couple bolts (13mm, I believe) that hold the whole assembly to the motor. DO NOT remove the fluid lines as the whole system will need to be bled if you do. After you get the bolts off (accessible by the service hole in the puley itself, you have to remove the belt and spin the pulley by hand until the hole is lined up with the bolt), the whole assembly should come free.

If the power steering pump pulley is pressed on and not bolted on (your dad will probably know what I'm talking about), go to an auto parts store like Autozone (it's free there. You pay for it and then when you bring it back they give you all your money back)) and rent a power steering pump pulley puller (no I'm not joking). Then your dad can get to the bolts and move the power steering out of the way. Most new GM power steering units are like that and it's pretty easy to get off. I've done it lots of times. You don't even really need a book for this job. Here's a link to the tool your dad needs.

if the blower continues to be working yet is blowing chilly air.and if once you velocity up the engine and a few warmth comes out then you definately've a vapor lock . often times enable the quiet down open the rad cap run the automobile with the rad cap off .you will see coolant circulating whilst the automobile gets warm the thermostat will open the coolant point will drop upload coolant and verify the heater blower if it blow warm air, whilst this occurs suited up the coolant ,replace the rad cap this might desire to restoration it

I had one of them, it was an 89 or something, good car. Look at a Haynes or Chiltons manual. They have photopraghs and stuff. Its basic mechanics. Good cars.

Why don't you go to the auto parts store and buy a Chilton's manual,that way you can see the pictures and if you have any more problems you can look in your manual.they only cost about twenty bucks.Ive had one for just about every car Ive owned.They have saved me thousands of dollars in repair bills.Good luck.
